Jumping Mouse?
Who keeps moving my cursor?
Tuesday, January 15, 2008 by wulfn1 | Discussion: Personal Computing
Here's what's happening:
I have a gateway 505m laptop. It has a synaptics touchpad (with the most updated drivers available) and every couple days it gives me a warning prompt that there is another pointing device on my computer and it is shutting down to let that one work. thing is, I don't have another pointing device. now the problem arises when my cursor decides it wants to go somewhere other than where I am pointing it and just jumps there.combine that with a keyboard glitch that causes the cursor to jump one line up when I tap the apostrophe button or shift + quote highlights the whole line.
it is sometimes funny, but most times frustrating and I am hoping someone out there has a clue why this is happening or how to correct it.
Any ideas?
thanks for reading

there are times I wish it were that simple! especially when I am not paying attention and the cursor jumps to a different window and I click before checking.... closed too many things that way!!

The mouse is a cordless Logitech... and no, there are no other cordless mice/mouses within cooee/nearby to cause interference.
Yeah, mee too... just in case I got one o' them pesky varmints in the machine.

Seriously, though, I get the same problem as cap'n starkers. My cursor will just start crabbing sideways (or even up/down) of its own accord. Kind of curious as to why......

actually my optical mouse on my desktop does that too, but I know alot of it has to do with the eye bouncing off the mousepad, especially if there is lint or something on it.also happens if I lift it slightly and dont reallize I did.
this touchpad does that (crabbing) as well as jumping to odd spots just to be contrary, and opening up right click menus as I show in my desktop pic.

Oh, you dunno how glad I am you said that... not that I'm happy about your situation, but that now I know I'm not 'seeing' things/going nuts. Yep, if the puter catz didn't work, I was gonna look thru the Yellow Pages for an exorcist.

I have a Logitech Cordless Trackball which did the same thing. I took the cover off and cleaned the inside and the problem stopped.
