Can't get the dock to pop-up
On window change or on new window

I have a little annoying problem:
I have a dock with my current opened windows, but when i receive a yahoo message the dock stays hidden, although there's a new window there!
How can I make it to pop-up and flash when i receive a message or when a new window appear?
I can see the icon for a new yahoo messenger window is flashing if I bring up the dock, but can't it show up automatically if such an event occurs?

I have the same question, I guess, although for Windows Live Messenger.
