CursorXP using a lot of CPU

When running CursorXP I have noticed it is using a high percentage of CPU processes up to 40% at times. Any ideas on why this is happening? It doesn't do it all the time but particularly when I change a windowblind. Of course it could also be a Vista Ultimate thing since that is what I am running.

Running Core Duo 2 2.2G
2G Ram
Nvidia M140 256M Video Memory

Any thoughts?

I'm going to say its that you're running a Program designed for XP on Vista. There is a new Cursor FX coming out that will be Vista compatible.

Yes, I think you are right. It is a Vista thing - a reboot clears it up for a while then back to acting up.

[ctrl]+[shift]+[C] stops and starts CursorFX . . that might help

CXP does the same thing on my XP machine .... so I don't think it's necessarily a 'Vista' thing.

TXpatriot - I am glad you chimed in. Well - I guess I can do some research to see what is happening then. I thought it was just Vista actually.

I have CXP Plus and it's not using hardly any of my cpu. I run XP.....

I have Vista Ultimate and there is no change in cpu activity when using CXP.

AlMonty - none at all? It happens to me over time...especially if I change a window blind. Could you try that sometime if you use WB?

Just adding to this issue. I have identified some of the issues at least for me.

First of all for me it is the combination of Firefox and CursorXP (don't use IE so I don't know if it the same there).

Second I also found out that if vista changes to standard graphics due to a Quicktime page or other graphics requirements I see CursorXP pretty much stop and CPU usage goes through the roof for CursorXP. In addition, CursorXP memory usage goes to 4 times normal.

The only way to fix it is to restart CursorXP and Firefox - then it goes back to acceptable performance.

Still researching though...

Well I run CXP Plus and XP Home 32bit with IE7 and a normal compliment of widgets and gadgets on my desktop. I have never seen CPU usage go wild and stay at a high rate. Throw that into the mix.

I am getting more convinced, in my case, it is a Vista issue. I am not suggesting in any way that CXP Plus isn't working as designed it was not intended for Vista.

I just thought if anyone else is experiencing what I am they might be able to keep struggling along until the update comes out.

Besides I am bored...so this keeps me busy.

If Vista switches to non DWM mode you will lose all hardware acceleration of graphics including the CursorXP cursor.

This is probably why your cpu usage goes up.

In XP, only on certain circumstances CursorFX takes full CPU usage (examples involve browsing in certain websites)

CursorXP never caused any problems in WinXP...BUT...in windows vista it makes the mouse framerate to slowdown a lot, so I think CursorFX inherits some problems from CursorXP that are noticeable in vista.

I'm pretty sure about this, CursorXP in vista caused problems, when I turned it off the problem dissapeared. (this problem was more noticeable while using dual screen monitors and going from one screen to the other BTW)

On my Vista Ultimate, Sysinternals Process Explorer shows that Tabtip.exe jumps to very high CPU usage (up to 30%) when CursorFX is running. CursorFX itself uses up to 10% CPU, so a real problem. I think you're absolutely right that this is something that was also in CursorXP. A Google search came up with an old post saying that on the Tablet edition on Windows XP the same problem occurs. Hopefully this is something that can be resolved. CursorFX is cool and (while I can't practically run it on Vista) it works well on my XP notebook.
