I just recently installed Desktop X without any problems...Im able to load a theme properly but unable to modify it...If I try to switch to desktop x builder I get an error msg telling me that it is not available, or has been moved to another location,(red X in the window)  the screen goes back to the original xp setting...Thanx

Do you see a DesktopX Builder.exe file located within the DesktopX folder? (This defaults to C:\Program Files\Stardock\Object Desktop\DesktopX)

You may need to perform an uninstall, wipe (of that folder) and then reinstall.
