Sometimes on a slow day here on the WC forums, I find myself flipping through the pages of my replies and posts (doesn't take that long as I only been here just over a year).
Today I dug back even further, to threads that were started long before I even knew what skinning was!
One thread caught my eye. This is posted June 14, 2001, where a member suggested supporting WC financially. Here's a quote from the Frog's mouth:
"Personally speaking, I would not be in favor of WinCustomize having any sort of subscription at this point. As long as there are other skin sites available like DeviantArt, there just isn't enough pressure on WinCustomize to justify anything like that.
The best route (I think) is to have T-shirts, CDs, and other optional goodies that users
can purchase that help support the site and the user gets something useful. Heck, if we ever had a hard drive crash and didn't have backups, maybe someone could loan us their WinCustomize CD! (just kidding)" WWW Link

You people love making forum moderation a challenge don't you?
My personal favorite remains the JoeUser is Joke User thread that was previously linked in the thread. If you read near the beginning you can actually see some posts from me on the issue several months before I was hired by Stardock. When I could really go at it with other users.... ahh I miss those days
To the original thread about subscriptions, I'll bet in a few years time people will be linking back to threads bemoaning the Master Skins program, saying how no one should have to pay for a good skin (a recurring argument from the very first days of skinning), made all the more funny as by then I'd expect MyColors to have pushed the idea of branded purchased skins into the mainstream consciousness of computer users.

Oh, and BTW, when you finally get that promotion, will you be known as 3of4 or will you just get a + sign added? Just curious!
