Very slow Web Site

Opening Web Site & subsequent pages

Wednesday, October 31, 2007 by JohnCoke | Discussion: New Users

Am I the only one having problems with the very slow opening of Wincustomze.com and any subsequent pages that I want to download from? It takes a minimum of 1 minute to get onto the Site and can take up to 5 minutes opening any of the pages. This is the only Web Site that I have these problems with.
Any ideas?

It's the site design. It's poor. To many adverts, notice they load before anything else. And they're everywhere!! They should do something to make like you able to show 10, 20 or 50 things on a page etc. So clever people can tab browse! But yeah, the way I make the site faster, is by changing the cache in Opera's settings, and thus is remembers more of the site, doesn't always make it faster, but does sometimes, and always does when you have to hit that back button.

Thanks,
Kirk.

If you have a subscriptin to WC you shouldn't be seeing any ads.

Yes, I never have a problem with the web site. But today was really bad.... Very slow to open and one time it could not be acessed.... Thought maybe there was something wrong with the site. Other than WC have no other problems with sites..

xskorpx: Since the new servers were installed the speed has been great only usually takes 5-6 sec's to load a page for the most part & it's not like i got super fast bb , by the time it gets states side it'd be 90kb-130kb i usually can download @ around 150kb of data on a 1.5mbps plan, that said i am 12hrs ahead so most of the states is asleep, lazy bums

Buzzh58 is also in New Zealand like you xskorpx and he has just about same PC as me , uses FF and is on dial up ...but he has not had any of the problems Ive had. I know I have less problems if I get up at 3 am and come here at that time but not always. Yet buzzh58 can be here during my daytime and he still doesnt have the problem of pages loading or the download speeds of 1.1 kbs . All his files download at the normal 5 kbs ( normal for dial up )
I guess maybe they have different servers on the other side of the pond.

I cant get WC profiles or Personal pages to load correctly. Certain profiles wont load at all or if they do all the thumbnails and text all load on the left side of page and it all out of order ( the infamous red text is seen on links ) Open/close Open/close
I can do this for 20 minutes and still not get it to load correctly.

If I get to forum I'm lucky if I can get a post to load all the way.

Helo all,
I have just revisited my Forum Post and read the new comments. Very interesting!
I have subscribed to Stardock (and therefore presumably WC) since Jan 2007.
How do I get rid of the ads? - if they are the cause of my problem, I would like to see them disappear.
Since my last Post, the quickest the Site has loaded has been around 30 sec (my AOL Broadband is "up to 2mbps", which is supposed to be fairly fast). Getting onto the Skin Pages is still a bit of a nightmare.
You seem a knowlegeable crowd (I am a Silver Surfer, with intermediate abilities). Someone out there is no doubt wondering if you suggestions are getting through to my brain - they are!

Many thanks for your Posts
John

No problems here. DL speed is (currently) 54mb/s. UL speed is 24mb/s. Gotta love wireless-N technology!

Seriously tho, isn't WC a seperate website from SD? Do you get a free sub here if you purchase SD OD?

I just checked your profile. No, you shouldn't see ads as you are a subscriber. Try clearing the cache, log out and log in again.

Hello killajosh,
I have just gone through all my Print Offs of the Stardock Products I have purchased.
Yes, WC is a seperate Account. I had purchased WC after purchasing SD.

DL speed not too bad at the moment - couldn't believe it!

I use ad-muncher, it's shareware, but great if you use IE. All pages load up w/out any delays...so carguy's right about the ads slowing things down.

$6.00 for a burger is too steep for me, you rich or something? A double Krystal burger with all the goodies is much less, and a better burger. Don't have Krystal Burger's? Sorry for that. I love a good 24 pack of Krystal Burgers for the household. The are much like White Castle, if you have those. Don't know where you live so I would suggest another new place Sonic, best burgers and coney island dogs, chili, slushies, cream slushies, and now I am starving. Thanks for the thoughts, logging out to go and get something to eat.

I don't get ads, I download fast all pages, upload is fast, on Roadrunner lite and have the oldest and slowest computer in the fleet. 601 mhz and pentium two processor. 512 mem and have to use memMax to keep running fast cause my stuff is soooo slow and old, sorry about getting into the burger thing but Killajosh got me started on the food chain......sooooo hungry now. Faintish.....Actually never had a problem with the site since membership 8 years ago or so. Once you pay that little price tag you get the best service and the best place to download anything you need fast and without any problems. I love it.

I had a consistently bad experience connecting to this site. From When the East Coast of America went to work for the next 12-16hrs, the traffic just seemed too much and I could at times be waiting for literally hours for a page to open.

It was only this site I had trouble with, it was always the same time period, didn't matter if I was logged in and recognised as a subscriber or not.

I'd discounted everything on the client side as being the problem. The issues being raised at Wincustomize about site access were nothing like they used to be, so I had to figure the site itself had improved it's access. I was only really left with one thing to deal with, and that was how the connection was being routed.

I was unable to resolve this with my then supplier, so I changed my ISP & Hey Presto - new routing and 24hr access to the site. No more of the eternal wheel spinning while waiting for a script to catch up.

I too am a Stardock and WC subscriber I still get ads. They aren't on the home page, they are on the pages when I go to the Gallery/Visual Styles page. There's a vmware and google ad in the center and a big Circuit City ad down the right side. It's only on that first page. No ads on subsequent pages and it only seems to be on the one gallery page as far as I have checked. I don't see this as a big deal as long as it's not covered in ads. Our subscripton fees and a couple of ads sure provide a really top notch site.

My connections are 2-3 secs. to home page, 5-6 secs. to galleries. I think this is because I have the maximum load per page. If you have any third party security programs (ie: Online Armor)installed, be sure to TRUST these sites if your software allows, as well as adding to trusted sites in IE. I hope everyone gets their speeds worked out.
