Go to the ScreenShots Library and you will see how others are customizing their desktop. With Object Desktop you will be able to do the same.
Just remember you can alwasy come to the forums to ask questions. Also check out the forums and see what is going on with the programs here.
Rainlander is free, when you go to the Galleries click on Rainlander, there will be a link to its site there.
Welcome to the community.

To use a gadget you need no other program installed on your computer.
To use a widget , you need to install DesktopX - that program comes with your Object Desktop. Just download it through your Stardock Central. DesktopX doesn't need be running for a widget to work ( widgets just use the runtime from the program ) You just d/load widgets and open the file and they will install into the widget folder inside desktopX folder.
As for " Rainlendar " when you go to download the program they will offer you version 2.0
Most of the skins here work best with previous version of Rainlendar version 0.22.1
That version is still available at Rainlendar site ...look for the link when there . You can install both versions on your computer. The Rainlendar skins will work in the 2.0 version but some functions will not.

Rainlendar is multifunctional and will display public holidays, vacations, appointments, reminders, events and notes. Of course, you will have to input all information yourself. It is a simple process, but you will have to go through a learning curve.
As mentioned before, peruse through the railendar gallery. Some skins are more advanced than others, look at the latest ones....they are usually loaded with all the functions.

With a subscription you get unlimited excess to the site for the length of the subscription. You will need to download other programs like WB to make use of the libraries at WC.
Have you downloaded any programs like WindowBlinds, ObjectDock etc.?
Check out this link, it takes you to the WinCustomize Wiki. Great place to start.
