First pass:
  • Let me skin it (Although that's some nice branding you got going on there)
  • Let me set it not to open to the welcome screen after first load
  • Make the SD logo a hyperlink to SD.com
  • Tool tips are friendly
  • Lower right corner of the pakcage information looks square instead of rounded ("This sound package is a collage . . .")
  • I would call the edit button Orange, not yellow as stated in the text above. I'd go with yellow if it weren't for the very yellow note icon to the left.
  • Got some sentences combined in the text of the "More Packages" Tab
  • It would be cool to see something like skin browser for Sound Packages on the "More Packages"tab. Otherwise seems like a lot of tab with little funcionality
  • I accidently deleted the first sound my trying to lower the volume level by clicking the red minus button. That's all me. I'm a doofus.
  • A "System default" package on the "Packages" tab might be intuitive.
  • A "Package curent theme" might be useful too if possible
Oh . . restoring failed (but I didn't have a sound scheme in place [Vista Business]). But nice reporting feature.

Now to go out collecting sounds. I think my first pass will be my kids. Too bad there's not a recording function in this thing. Might not be used much . . but could be fun.

I'm not really a sports geek personally. I was wondering whether there were plans to release a variety of maybe 5-6 packages with the final product?

Where do the packages go after you import them? I downloaded the Baseball package then imported it into Soundpackager and when I went to the folder the download was gone.

When I downloaded baseball FF prompted me to load it with SP. Worked like a charm!
It copied the sound pack here (on Vista): d:\Documents and Settings\USER_NAME\Documents\Stardock\SoundPackager

It looks like this is more beta than it should be or am I just reading the comments all wrong?

No Philly0381 you ain't reading it wrong. It won't fully restore default system sounds on my system and I now have annoying sounds that activate at weird timings like a net page refresh, clicking on a WinCustomize button, etc. I haven't tried all out to get rid of the problem, yet. But it is annoying. Waiting for a fix from Stardock for now. Program looks promising. The concept is good. But, you know, restoring back system defaults is a must work item for customization software. I'm sure Stardock will be looking into this.

After uninstalling sound packager every thing seems to be back in order.
But I did relize after uninstalling that my DX Dark Weather sidebar gadget stopped working. I did a restore point back before installing sound packager and vista side bar gadget still does not work.
It was working before installing sound packager.

Ok update. The only thing that remains borked - so far as I can tell - is believe it or not SDC.   This is a potential disaster. I've tried de-installing, rebooting, rebooting from last known good configuration (don't know about restore points, how to use them or set them) I've used control panel to reset default system sounds which it says I now have and, for standard windows events it seems to be working, except SDC is borked. Now, whenever a page loads or I press a WinCustomize web page button, I get football sounds and I can't turn them off. This is happening in SDC and IE7 which is borked also. FF2 is okay(thankful). Any solutions?

This is a potential disaster


....it's just a sound.......not your house burnin' to the ground.

Start/ Programs/ Accessories/ System Tools/ System Restore.

Click on "Restore my computer to an earlier time'. Apply last Restore Point in list (if you have Windows on auto update, the restore point will be 09//11). Windows will restore and reboot automatically. Voila, sound fixed.....and you still have a roof over your head.

Okay you're maybe right yrag. However, it took some more digging to see what was borked and basically it had somehow borked the windows default sound scheme. This is why when I attempted to restore it, it didn't work. For awhile being the novice user I am I began to believe it had borked IE7 and SDC. Borking SDC would be bad because then I would have potentially lost my archives to fix a sound problem. There was a temp solution, mute the sound at least whenever using SDC, Explorer and IE7, or find the problem. I'll try restoring using the method you described because so far I've manually changed the borked default settings and renamed it "New Default", but so far I don't have original default settings any longer.

Don't install beta software unless you can afford to.
Hopefully SD will have a fix out soon to handle these issues.

Update. You would think using a system restore point would work. It doesn't. This is because the football sound theme is left installed even if you deinstall Sound Packager using SDC. Additionally, using Sound Packager to "Restore Defaults" borks your Windows Default sound profile. System restore points don't change any saved user data(sound profiles) they only change major file registry changes such as a bad program install(can help recover from that). Soooo, the only solution I found was to manually fix a new default sound scheme using the control panel and selecting Sounds and audio devices. One thing is for certain I now only have a modified system default sound scheme available. The original is lost and unrecoverable. Not a complete disaster since only some explorer and internet sounds were borked just a moment of uncertainty and some work to restore order. By the way, thanks for the effort in helping yrag, it was a good idea.

One final update, although the football sound scheme sounds have been eliminated, I cannot under any reasonable efforts of mine assign any sounds to any explorer system events or internet events through the control panel. They just get wiped out for some reason. I've tried apply and save as after having made my selections. It doesn't work. No go. No save. It just keep resetting itself to no sound for those events. So, I now have no sounds in explorer and no sounds in internet browser use. And, as stated control panel isn't allowing me to assign any manually. My system won't cooperate. Argghhh!.
