help withs .dreams

Wednesday, September 12, 2007 by nick092180 | Discussion: Windows Vista

alrighty im new to thise, but i have stardock deskscapes, windows dream scene, and vista ultimate, when ever i try to load a dream the screen goes black and vista says it can only run when the aero theme is in use. Well this is where im lost, my current theme is the aero theme.

I think my problem is that I have an older video card, i know its too old for vista cuz the windows dvd maker complained and said it was

anyway is their anyway to run these .dreams wallpapers or do i have to break down to get a new video card, im a lil iffy on it cuz i would be pissed to get a new vid card and have the same problem.

do i have to break down to get a new video card

possibly...

Hazarding a guess ...I'd say that the vid card is your problem if it's old, and you're still using it in Vista. Another reason could be out-of-date drivers. You could try updating those first, from the card manufacturers website.

A new [compatible with Vista] vid card shouldn't break your bank ...but choose carefully. If you do buy a new one, get one with as much onboard memory as your budget will allow.

I see you didn't note the specs of the vid card in your post ....is it that old?

That the 128meg one?  If so ....

Tried what I suggested above [new drivers]?

...Otherwise, it might be time to get the new one...

Best I can help you with ... maybe someone else can assist further from here ...or offer a second opinion?

Make sure you're using 32-bit color. Do the title bars of your windows appear transparent? Or are they solid-color. If they're not transparent, you're not getting the full aero effect, you're getting the compatability mode.

I have the same issue and have reported it - I have a Nvidia 7900 GS and the latest drivers

There is a bug in there that is preventing the dreams from loading after rebooting with any skin but default Aero. I hope they fix soon...(dreams work fine with Windowsblinds 6 skins before re-booting)
