Latest Stardock Newsletter about Magic Suite/OD Elite Users

Tuesday, August 28, 2007 by c242 | Discussion: Object Desktop

"Object Desktop Elite users are users who have active subscriptions to ObjectDesktop.net past January 1, 2009."

How that ? Did I miss something ? Is there a 2 Year subscription ? Or is it a typo ?

RightClick was updated for Vista (to support gadgets/widgets under Vista wasn't easy).

Did I miss something? SDC shows the last update for RightClick was on the 8th of June 2006. The History-file shows that this was the "skintool.exe" update for NET 2.0.

It sure is not working on Vista 64bit (crashes during customization, whenever I click a tiny bit too fast on the "ok"-button)

I also agree that marketing could come up with a better term than "elite".

Thanks frogboy
I feel much better now.
next year there will be a new version of Object Desktop called Object Desktop Ultimate Edition which all current subscribers will be automatically upgraded to.

Cant wait to see whats all in it.

You now once I got hooked on skinning. I will always need to renew subscription just to keep up with all the new stuff.

I just recieved the newsletter tonight. My subscription expires in October so I thought I might as well update. To reach the 09 deadline I bought 2(TWO) subcriptions but SDC still says it expires on October 17,2007. I installed SDC from the download. How do I reset this?

Ah, now it's even more clear for me. I mixed up the 'Ultimate' with 'Elite', so post #2 means the 'Ultimate' one, which is then coming as I understood it initially. Somehow I thought SD got a new term and conditions for the planned ultimate edition...

So all in all it is a nice idea to reward users who updated their subscription way beyond time.

Enter the registration info into the Object Desktop registration menu, and click update and see if that updates.  If you still have problems contact [email protected]

I'm going to check on this as I have a recent build, but I'm not sure if it was pushed out to the public yet.

MontyXP I extended my subscription yesterday also. It didn't update the expiration date until this morning. Just give the processing a littl time to catch up.

Hmm.  My SDC shows 8/6/2007 v1.24.  Let me find out about that.

Yea.  The term "elite" is just an arbitrary term invented by marketing to describe people who have long-term subscriptions (>1 year basically).  It has no real meaning outside the realm of marketing and the fact they'll get a free suite.

Object Desktop Ultimate is our long term goal to merge all our desktop enhancement products into a single mega product and simplify the regular Object Desktop.

Seriously, try explaining to the average person what Object Desktop is.  It's insane. There's like 20 things in it.  So in the future, there will be Object Desktop which will be more targeted to consumers and Object Desktop Ultimate which will target power users and (in time) integrate all our various desktop enhancements so that we can end the "oh, you need to get Object Desktop and then download this program and that program."  The integration will take some time though but that's the plan.

I received that email with coupon to renew my OD in July too. So I did. But my OD yearly subscription was due to expire sometime in August anyway. I think the discount email was a bit confusing, I totally missed out the 2009 date and I would have just renewed my OD for 2 years at that time but I saw no option to do this...only the standard 1 year..

The 20% off was a good deal..I wish it had been a 2 year option..I would have taken it.

Thanks a trillion times for putting up the updated version of RightClick.

I am so happy. For me personally, this was much more important than any "elite" or "ultimate"-label. I now can say that it was worth while to renew my subscription for another year. As long as the proggies are updated and new programs are added to the suite, as long I will renew my subscription.

Yeah, I renewed on the 6th and got the "coupon" on the 23rd. I thought it was sent BECAUSE I had just renewed. Timing is everything.

Glad you like it.

If there are any other programs on ODNT that you use that haven't been recently updated, let me know.  We actually thought that RightClick was already publicly available. It was an internal communication issue.

I should post a screenshot of what Stardock Central appears for me. I've got all kinds of upcoming ODNT things on there (and ThinkDesk updates but that's another story).

Thanks Philly that worked but it only gave me 1 year. I bought 2 years worth I'll email Stardock and see what they say.

Decisions decisions. Hi all. I'm trying to understand this, my OD subscription cycle is on December 7. I too received the discount offer of 20% to renew early in July and took Stardock up on it - my expiration is now 12-07-2008. So.... my question is can anyone tell me what direct additional benefits I'll receive (aside from the free Master Theme from Stardock Design) for adding an additional year to my subscription? I like to understand all relevant criteria before making my decision to renew at this time and extend my subscrition now to 12-07-2009. Help anyone? Thanks in advance.
