Beginner In Need Of Help...

Customizable Animated Wallpaper ?!?

Monday, August 6, 2007 by KomicJ | Discussion: Animated Wallpapers

Hello Everyone !!!

First post ever, so I hope I'm posting this in the right topic. Anyway, I'm a beginner and I have to idea if what I'm trying to achieve can be done or not, so maybe you guys can help me out a bit.

I had this idea for a wallpaper that should be nammed "Casting Call" or something close to that. Basically, it's a bunch of picture (polaroids or folders) of famous people displayed on a table. I know...it's kinda amateurish, but it seemed like a good project for a beginner like myself. So anyway, there are three things I'd like to add to that. Remember, we're talking about a wallpaper here, so I have no idea if this can be done;

1) The first thing I had in mind was to make it fully customizable. Let's say I can fit about 20 polaroids on that table. Would it be possible to make it fully customizable, so that other people could chose which celebrities would be displayed ? Like if I had 100 different polaroids (all the same size) and that, in the menu, the user could select the personalities they want by checking a box in the menu ?

2) I once worked with a javascript that changed the oppacity of a picture on mouse-over. Is that something that can be added to a wallpaper in any way ?

3) I also worked with another javascript that would flip a picture over so that you can see the back. I guess it's question 2.1 really...can that be use ?

Thanks to anyone willing to help...

It would prob have to be a "desktop item" I think, not sure if java would be able to used.. then again, I dont know much about it, sounds like an intersting concept nevertheless..

..if all else fails theres always plan B.. a 100 celebrity wallpapers.. wallpack.

I believe this could be done with DesktopX ....however, I'm not a coder ...so I can't even begin to explain how it could be done. I just have a fair idea that it could.

Perhaps one of the DX guru's here will come along and verify that it can/can't...

Sounds very interesting though, hope you find a way.

Wow...
Thanks a lot, I wasn't expecting replies on the first night. I'm gonna give DesktopX a look. I'm not a really good coder, I have some very basic knowledge of HTML, Java and Flash though. So I don't know, I could be way out of my league with that project.

If anything, I'll just post a celebrity wallpaper like vStyler proposed. Doubt I can fit 100 celebrities in there, but still...

why limit it to celebrities? Maybe allow users to import their own photos?

Just make the wall how you would want it for yourself..then just share it.

You could make a desktopx theme that had thumbnail pics to choose from but its a lot of work...

Id just try testing out the idea just the way you presented it .
