Majorly improved Weather update coming soon!

Brand new improved weather feed

Thursday, August 2, 2007 by Dr W - Fences Support | Discussion: Docks

Good news ObjectDock fans, we've been hard at work with our partner AccuWeather, and a brand new reliable weather feed is nearing ready. 2-3 weeks away.

The new feed will be (1) as up to date as you can possibly get (2) very resilient about locations, you'll have a much much harder time getting your nearby location to not be found, especially international users who may have had trouble before. Also, no more having to type something in exactly for it to work (For example "United Kingdom" vs "UK" vs "England"...only 1 of the 3 used to work.) (3) fast. faster servers = better performance and higher reliability for all.

Major kutos for our partner AccuWeather for being so helpful getting the feed & location-lookup up and running!

I'm really looking forward to putting out the update, thanks for your patience as we've been improving our system over the last several months

Ya sure, but you'll have to be patient and wait resources are scarce right now. When the weather finally gets nice again, I'll send you my bill.

wonderful to hear of this ongoing research, developement + troubleshooting of the worthwhile Objectdock app that has that on/off annoying weather update bug....will be cool to be able to truly trust one's eyes again w the pop-up five day forecast + daily/hourly reading once more + not have to check it against the DX version for accuracy

Despite earlier problems, my docklet has been finding my weather (Sydney) properly for a couple of weeks now; however, the flyout forecast is now displaced by two days; ie it's now monday, but the flyout runs "today","tomorrow","monday","tuesday","wednesday". The current weather & temp in the main docklet are correct, though.

Any chance this will be fixed, or is it just me?

I think this is happening for everyone. Hoping this is one of the issues that will be addressed.

Any idea what the new locations will be? Kinda sucks to only have the capital as an option.

number of new locations available = ridiculous basically, if you can get it on accuweather.com, you'll now be able to get it in ObjectDock. Fully searchable too, so just type in part of what you're looking for and it'll bring up a list of matches for you to pick from.

weather.com has a lot more locations available. For instance, for Slovenia, accuweather only has the capital available, but weather.com even has my little town. Would it be possible to include an .ini file or something, where you input your own weather feed url?

The weather.com feed is for non-commercial use I think.  ObjectDock is a commercial product.

There may be other doclets out there that are community produced that might work for you.

There's a docklet called XML weather, which uses weather.com, yes, but it doesn't have the nifty forecast thingy, hehehe.
