WindowBlinds 6 Beta Feedback
Wednesday, August 1, 2007 by Neil Banfield | Discussion: Stardock Support General
Please post all feedback about the WindowBlinds 6 beta on this thread.
Note that the beta is for 32 bit XP and Vista systems only. Please do not post about it not working on 64 bit XP/Vista. Please continue to use WB 5.51 on those platforms.
This beta is for Object Desktop customers ONLY. Standalone WindowBlinds 5 owners will not be able to activate this build.
Please note that you must have Stardock Central 2.46 Build 154 or later to install the WindowBlinds 6 betas. If you try and use older versions, it'll eventually timeout and give you an error about an invalid URL.
If you have problems with it running at all, please uninstall WB6, reboot and then try reinstalling WB6 again.

RedBuzzard: Menu bars are not skinned with per pixel skins which is why MDI min, max, close buttons do not get skinned. This is not a bug.
Daiwa: We intentionally block shadowed text on menus as it would look a mess with ownerdrawn menus not using it.

I said install, it asked for uninstall, I did that, NO REBOOT , wb 6 installed, reboot and import skins
Now all runs great

Does that mean they will not be skinned in final WB6?

10-4. How about Titlebar text effects? If it still doesn't work, will SKS6 stop offering options like that that WB doesn't support? Still curious about the menu painting issues, as well. But then you probably know that.

And can we get the skinning of MDI buttons in non-perpixel skins fixed up?
Sorry, I know I'm a pest.

I'm an Object Desktop subscriber, so I would have installed a trial version of WindowsBlinds on this originally clean Vista 32 Ultimate installation.
Object Dock, Multiplicity Professional, Desktop X, LogonVista, TweakVista all install and run correctly
UAC is off, but I've uninstalled and reinstalled with it on and off
Results repeatable from two different admin accounts
I've reinstalled and updated Stardock Central, and have tried to run the applications with "Run as Administrator" etc.
I've disabled NOD32 antivirus and Windows Defender service and application and reinstalled, etc.
All to no avail.
Every time the wbconfig tries to run, it comes up with this "you must reboot" error message.
These new versions work fine under XP on two different test systems, so I know how the installation is supposed to work, hehe.
I've done so many uninstallations and reinstallations (which all require a new activation for WB6 beta) that I had to have Stardock tech support reset my activation counter, haha.
I would appreciate some help as well, thanks.

And archiving the skins through SDC has NEVER worked for me. It just gets stuck loading the file list, and would get stuck for an hour before I gave up. Looks like I'll have to get Aura from a backup dvd. Really crappy that the skins were somehow deleted, especially since I told WB to leave all the skins, themes, etc when I uninstalled.

CodF4ther: if you have a process called ipoint.exe running please kill it.
The latest version of MS intellipoint is highly buggy and causes glitches like this (it seems to be capturing the contents of every window - exactly why is a question for Microsoft)

Overall, the beta seems very solid, but there clearly is work to be done.
