Drag and drop not working

I've got Object Dock Plus.  I'm dual booting XP and Vista.

In XP I'm able to drag a shortcut from the desktop to a dock and have it added automatically to the dock.  In Vista when I do the same drag and drop I get the "you can't do that here" symbol (circle with a slash through it) and am not able to drop the shortcut on a dock.

I've uninstalled, reinstalled, uninstalled, redownloaded, reinstalled with no improvement.

What magic check box am I missing?

Hello Bob, I am not using Vista but if you rightclick on the dock make sure that lock dragging is Not checked.

That works in XP and it controls draging icons off the bar in Vista. But it has no effect on allowing me to drag and drop new shortcuts onto the dock.

So I'm still looking for a solution.

Hi Bob,

I had noticed recently that the drag & drop on Vista with UAC on was sometimes still problematic. We'll have that fixed for the next update for sure

One more thing, quick question - User Account Control is indeed on for you correct? Assuming yes, are you running ObjectDock "as administrator"? If so that could be the source of the problem, don't know if there will be a workaround available for that if that is the case due to Windows' security protections.

The problem now seem to be solved, at least on my end.

Here's the info you asked about and how the problem was solved for me.

Yes, UAC is on. I am running under my administrator account (bad boy, yes, I know). I didn't know whether I was trying to run OD+ "as administrator" or not. I checked the shortcut under All Programs on the start menu. The "Run As Administrator" check box was NOT checked.

For no good reason I clicked on that shortcut to start OD+. Magically I was able to drag and drop to my docks.

I have always started OD+ from Stardock Central. So, I unloaded OD+ and restarted it from Stardock Central. Now I was back to drag and drop not working. So it appears that SC may be part of the cause of the problem.

As a side note UAC always raises it's ugly head every time I start Stardock Central. Maybe this is contributing to the problem.

Thanks for the help. Your questions lead me to the solution, even if by accident.

Ah ha! That's it, nice detective work Yes, it was the starting of ObjectDock from Stardock Central. Since Stardock Central is an app that (currently) needs to run as admin because of it's installer-ability, any app it in turn runs Windows automatically makes "run as admin" as well.

Thanks for the complement. But at a minimum it was a team effort. I never would have thought that "run as administrator" would have that effect.
