Windowblinds Update Created Problems

Tuesday, June 19, 2007 by Scrofulous1 | Discussion: Stardock Support General

Your computer has a Windows Experience Index base score of 5.4
Your Windows Graphics Experience score is 5.9
WindowBlinds version : WindowBlinds 5 (5.51 (build 97 x86))
WindowBlinds is installed correctly on this PC
WindowBlinds appears to be activated on this PC
SyncMaster 204T/204Ts/204B,SyncMaster Magic CX201Ts(Digital)) 1 is attached to NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX (2 x SLI)
Wblind.dll 2007/06/19 10:39:20
Wbsrv.dll 2007/03/13 09:57:52
Wbconfig.exe 2007/06/19 10:43:03
Wbload.exe 2006/03/13 17:54:14
Wbhelp.dll 2004/09/18 16:37:07
Tray.dll 2006/04/28 18:26:49

I updated WindowBlinds via Stardock Central. Since then the preview panel in WB has pink around all preview images and Aero preview displays as Windows XP. I had Nuage Redux loaded, and now it and all other skins will not load. I can only get default Aero to load. I unloaded WB, rebooted etc., no joy. Finally the slider bar in WB preview (used to pick skins) is black.

Whatever happened is related to the update because it worked fine until that point. Any assistance would be appreciated. I can uninstall but hope not to. Thanks.

Not sure about how to fix it, but I would suggest checking "archive application on update" at the bottom of the SDC window if you haven't already. That way you can restore the archive if the update borks.

Bebi Bulma: I didn't know that, thank you. Useful in future.

I also noticed that the skin names were appearing over-top of each other too. For example the words Pirate Vista would appear over the words Nuage Redux in the drop-down skin selection box in WB selection, if I tried to load Pirate after Nuage (neither of which would actually load).

I reinstalled backup copy and all good now. Something in the update didn't agree with my system.

It appears the installer is incorrectly installing the XP build on Vista.

We are looking into this and will be updating the build once we track down what is going on.

What build of Stardock Central are you using?

What's the version reported in Help / About? There have been builds of SDC in the past (113, I'm looking in your general direction) which then failed to auto-update the files, even if the version string was getting incremented.

http://sdc.stardock.com/sdcentral_setup.exe has the current version of SDC (2.45 Build 150), though I believe anything past build 147 should also be fine. Please reinstall that and then attempt to update WB 5.51.

Stardock Central - 2.45.462 Build 150

Updatd SDC and WB as instructed.

Now computer worse than before. Graphics all screwed up. I unloaded WB in order to write this. Initially it looked good. Then I test loaded Pirate WB and it was too short across bottom of screen. I then tried to reload Nuage Redux and all hell broke loose. I`m offline for a few hours but will check back later. Updating does not appear to have resolved the problem, for me. Thanks again, I appreciate the effort.

Ichi, what's the exact file size of \windows\system32\wbload.dll? Should be:

5/26/07  12:35          59,056  wbload.dll

File Name: wbload.dll
File size: 25.6 KB (26,288 bytes)

About half of the size you suggest?

Ichi and GregII, please email [email protected] program files\stardock\sdcentral\installed\wb5.log and the install.log from the WindowBlinds directory. Replace the one in your system32 dirs with http://sd.stardock.com/wbload.dll. Reboot. Better?

There is a definite improvement, but the WB preview pane still shows the old WinXP preview for the Aero installation. It does install Aero though. Other than that, it seems fine. To the best of my recollection, the preview prior to this latest problem did indeed show the Aero preview. This is certainly something I can live with though.

Thank you once again.
