Changing mice!!

Just a quick question...can you change your mouse, while your pc is on? ....or do you have to shut it off?

It's very unlikely a PS2 mouse can be changed while on....they're as fussy as serial mice
The fun bit is having more than one...eg PS2 AND USB...

if it is PS\2 then you have to shut it down other wise the system won't know it's there
if it is USB then you can leave the system running but make sure that what ever drivers that came with your old mouse get uninstalled first though it might and might now cause a conflict (more & likely it won't) but it's alway best to connect a new device with out the previous drivers

I was able to change it, but then the keyboard did not work, I still had to reboot.
I just bought a Microsoft basic optical mouse yesterday, when I had my pc in to have a *clattering sound) checked out. I did not pay attention to the small end that attaches to the pc, and when I went to install it, I realized the others had the round end, and this had a flat end (this being the USB type), I'm guessing). I wanted to change it to a different one, I purchased a couple months ago, because I discovered it was bothersome to my hand, wrist and arm...it seemed fine at the pc place, but when I was using it , it seemed too small, and the scroll wheel is *bumpy* for lack of a better term, it does not give smooth feeling when used.
Since my original hp mouse that came with the pc, stopped working perfectly (roller ball type, yes it was cleaned), a year ago, I have been having a difficult time finding the perfect mouse. The Microsoft one I bought yesterday, is number 4, in a line of disappointing mice..mouses. I do not *play games*...but a good mouse is essential to my artwork. Anyone have any suggestions as to a mouse best suited for this purpose?
And Jafo, can you really have the two different *plugged in* at the same time?

Yes, you can...I've frequently had both a PS2 and USB working. It's much the same situation as having a mouse at the same time as a Graphics tablet and pen. Either one grabs the 'movement'...
PS2 disconnections while running can/do cause system lockups and/or loss of keyboard.
I still like the BIOS Error.....

I had both my old wireless and new wireless mouse working at the same time using the same receiver, that is until I gave my sister my leftovers.

I can only say that I can change all my mice while running the system!
With my keyboard it doesnt works...

I have the Logitech Wireless Laser Desktop and I find that the keyboard and mouse both work really well for me but if you want to go with the same as mine I suggest you get a set of rechargable AA & AAA(2 of each)batteries as the batteries on the mouse go dead about every three weeks.Strangely the keyboard batteries are still working fine and it was about 6 months ago that I bought the set.anyways you won't have to worry right away as Logitech supplies batteries with the desktop when you buy it. P.S. The mouse is also a lot lighter than the Microsoft version of wireless mouse and that is a big plus for me .

Yes you can change it while your PC's on - providing it's a PS/2 or USB
The old 'styled' mice required a reboot to re-function, if detached.
