Kids

I have a 9 month old son, whom I was playing with by tickling his belly with my face (sounds strange but if you saw you'd understand, and you parents already do). Anyway, as I tickled him, he was laughing, and with kids--especially when they're young--you get this honest, full-throttle, no holds barred, belly laugh. And as I was laughing at him laughing, I thought, "This has got to be one of the coolest sounds in the world." I love hearing my boys laugh. So I want to ask you parents (and grandparents), what is the coolest thing about being a parent? You may include stories if you wish. This shold be interesting.

I can pretty much say that I can't remember who I was before I was a parent because I can't imagine my life without my kids. Even when they're causing trouble to no end, busting my hump, causing scenes in public, crying rivers, making messes, and achieving decibel levels previously undiscovered.
The coolest thing about being a parent is having kids that I love so much, that return my love & offer it unconditionally and make me feel younger everyday when I play with them (and on the flipside make me feel older because my "batteries" aren't holding a charge as much as their's currently do - ever notice a kid can play full throttle non-stop and after a while you have to sit down and take a breather). My kids have added so much to my life, much more than I could have ever added to their lives. It's a great feeling.

Also I remember my mum doing it to me and it made me happy. It's funny that I remember those moments as I was only 2 years old I guess it was really special.

Man, I'll be 43 next month (married kinda late in life) and I gotta say, "I hear ya, brother!" If you think that's tough, try having one that's hyperactive (my 4 year old).
Something else that's cool is to see yourself in your kids. To see mannerisms and traits that you know you possess, and to think, s/he's just like me, wow!

Just "taught" my 9 & 11 yr-olds to ride bicycles the last two days...ever see a 65-yr-old guy with a beerbelly hobble along holding a kid's bike by the seat?
They just rode off and buzzed around the block the whole rest of the day while I wheezed in the shade, looking at my own bike.

I have 3 kids and I love playing with them. Each child has been remarkably different and a gift in itself.
Before I was a parent, I'd see people talk all mushy about their kids and think it was incredibly corney and silly. But since becoming a dad, and joining the borg, I "get it" now.

Being a parent is cool by itself
