A few years ago I read from a developer /affiliate in the Regnow forums that TBYB is not such an good idea from a selling point of view, because people buy on impulse. A small developer who's website does not receive much traffic do not have much of a choice as to go the TBYB option, but other sites that draw much traffic will do much better selling directly. There was one guy that was totally against it and he engouraged other developers to rather give a 30 day money back guarantee instead of TBYB. From this guy's position in the sales ranks it was obvious that he had a point as he made more money in one day than what others made in months. So if I was in Stardock position I would also not consider TBYB for such an small dollar value product.
Zubaz I see that you say you "think" Stardock is the only folks selling dreams. Are other people who is creating dreams allowed to sell it from their own website? If I spend a few weeks creating a dream I would prefer to sell it. I fix a lot of other peoples PC's for free and spend hours sorting out their computer problems so I think I'm doing my part when it comes to free.

Many of the artists and coders here sell their content at their own sites. I've seen people over the years give away one version and sell a more advanced version elsewhere.
I have to say though that in addition to having its own intrinsic value, another advantage of doing the time and becoming a Master is the traffic this site has in generating sales for the Master skinners. It's worth the effort in lots of ways.
Any Master can sell their Dreams (or any other skin) here. Stardock Designs is the only one doing it so far.

Your reasoning that i can judge your pay for dreams by the others does not hold water in this example because your others work fine. It is just the one i bought that has this issue. To be perfectly honist, i think i should beable to get a refund because it does not opperate the way dreams are being advertised, as something that respects power settings.

Contact [email protected] to report the bug. If they cannot help you contact [email protected] to see how they can help you with a refund. I hope it won't be necessary.

Desktop Earth, for example, is completely rendered from your video card on the fly when you select it. All it is is a 3D rendered object that sits on your desktop, and since no video, looping or encoding of any kind is involved, we see a MUCH lower CPU usage. Due to this fact there is also absolutely no issues as far as your monitor's resolution, since the video card will be able to render it to whatever it is you desire (granted the video card has the horse power).
Blissful Dream is in no way the same. Blissful dream IS indeed a video file that was made to loop and was encoded with very specific details and at a specific resolution. Just about the ONLY thing that makes Blissful Dream even remotely "dynamic" is the fact that it has time trigger capabilities, but please understand the differences between the dynamic of desktop earth and the dynamic of blissful dream - it is quite large!
As I noted at the beginning of this post, PLEASE correct me on ANYTHING that I stated incorrectly above. I am saying all of this based on very little fact, and mostly my own speculation gathered from experience and knowledge. All I want to do is help clear this one up, since I've seen several people confused on the matter.

Logistically double activating something sounds like a nightmare. There really is no easy solution to this other than.. if 5-10 bucks is going to stress you out.. don't take the plunge.

LUUUUUDRRRRRRICIOUS!

----------
SD, what about something akin to Xbox Live Marketplace, the world's current best TBYB microtransaction service? The download is exactly the same, but for example, you get watermarks and 2 days of grace periods before being denied access if you don't activate through Stardock Central (Or Deskscapes itself in that matter).
Logistically it would be easy, and a coulple of "buy me now" ads would make the proposal sweeter (I'm still saving up for daily fixes of premium coffee, so not yet.
