iTunes & Aero

Friday, April 27, 2007 by Gregory2001 | Discussion: Windows Vista

iTunes disables Aero for me but some people say it works just fine. Am I missing something? Is there a workaround? Thanks.

i believe it disables it because of quicktime which runs in compatability mode. when you use itunes for only music you chould have no problem...but you could always just download the latest one which they say works fine with vista..but can you really believe what the software companies are saying about how their products work fine with vista.........remember Hi i'm windows and Hi i'm a mac.....

I run iTunes everyday with no problem.  Are you using the latest version?

if you have iTunes without quicktime and your quicktime is an older version then you have a good chance of that being the culprit. it states for vista users to uninstall quicktime and then redownload and install the iTunes+quicktime download and that should solve your problem....found that on an iTunes forum hope that helps...

For me, quicktime sux, but my ipod seems to need it somehow. Would love to have only itunes and no quicktime, but the two seem to be interdependent. I close qt from the systray as soon as I boot, but it somehow sneaks back at reboot. Received new itunes/ipod software update today, for those who wish to keep on top of such things. Took about 1 minute with ipod synched. ipods work for our family pretty well, but they get lost, sometimes, for a week or two, and then resurface. Tiny li'l buggers.
p.s.- Using XP PRO SP2, not aero. Is that a thread hijack or just a social faux pas?

just go into your quicktime preferences and uncheck the box for run at startup if you don't want it to run when you boot...

Quick time and Vista - use at your risk!
There are several blog and forum sites with terrible reports of what happens to Vista using apple software on it. Also it seems to work just fine and dandy at first and then one day all of a sudden you find out your IE7 does not work correctly as it should. Then other things start going wrong and there is NO WAY to repair the damage it does without reinstalling Vista.

Good luck with it and I will never use any Apple software ever again on any of my computers.
As for my IPOD - sold it on ebay and got me a Zune! Works everytime and all the time with everything I want to use and so forth!

The first time I tried iTunes+Quicktime on the beta version of Vista it didn't work but I've downloaded two updated versions since then and I had no problems. I don't actually use the programs much, I prefer WMP, but sometimes you need to watch a .MOV file so...

I've just bought and installed ObjectDock Plus.

The Vista Aero theme gets disabled when I'm running ObjectDock Plus and then open iTunes.

If I quit iTunes the Aero theme is reapplied.

note: running Vista Ultimate Edition on a Dell XPS M1710.
