PC Magazine do it.., why wincustomize don't?

Sunday, April 22, 2007 by TYCUS | Discussion: Community

not only PC Magazine have made something like a "Looking through our life" article every time they can, also other magazines have made this, so why Wincustomize hasn't made? We can have a little space (between the Sponsors and the Recent forum activity), in which we can show one of the first skins that came here on the beginnings of Wincustomize...

...my two cents.

Maybe call it: 'Back in the Day'...? 'Antique Showcase'?
"Noticias por los pedos viejos" (jk, TYCUS, I'm one of those!   )

I think it would be good. Certain skins were the first of their kind as it pertained to the development of Windowblinds and DesktopX advancing in what they can do and offer. I've gone back, looking at older skins that I could play with and see if I could update them. You go back to something like 'Trek Pad' that didn't even have the taskbar skinned and you realize how far it's come. The same could be said for cursors and iconpackages.

I think an occasional 'look back' would be interesting, with some input from the people who had to figure out the codes as things advanced.

Now that would be really interesting! I remember trying to configure Hoverdesk with the original pixtudio suite*, and it whacked my brain. Never could get it to work right. Then took VB6 in 2002 at a tech school here and realized what all goes into a mod of any kind. You creators are amazing, when I think about the part of themes/skins that's in addition to 'just' the artwork. Took me a whole semester just to code a tic-tac-toe game!

*check out the suite, it's as full as Heavy Equipment! Yep, those were the days...

I think it's a great idea, and would love to see members of the community write up their "skinning history" so to speak.  We have an article system here that is woefully underused.  This is exactly the sort of thing we'd love to see the community use that space for.

So I say go for it, write it up from your own perspective.  Give your own thoughts and insights on how you got started, what things were like "back in the day" and how they've changed since then.  I often feature good community articles on the front-page news, so it would most certainly get some attention!

This is called 16 Volt by Ruinedinc. It was done sometime in 2001 I think.

You can create a new article and it can be displayed both in the forums and in the article section on WinCustomize.

Just check the "options" tab when creating a new article.
