Help: Adding screenshots to personal site gallery

Thursday, April 12, 2007 by Philly0381 | Discussion: OS Customization

It doesn't seem to difficult but I do have a couple of questions.

1. Do you need any special software to create the Preview Image or can I just use Print Screen, open Paint, bring in the image and save as a .jpg?

2. Does the image need to be a certain size?

3. How do I do a Screen Shot File, is it the same as Preview Image?

4. How do Tags work?

I'm only looking to put screenshots on my personal gallery because you folks are way to good for me to try and compete with.    It will also serve as a reminder for me what WB I have used and what widgets, IP, CXP and other things were used.

Okay, the answers have to be so easy everyone must be  .

Could someone just humor me with a response. Please.

1. Nope that will pretty much do it.
2. No, Paint usually saves crap quality jpg's anyway, so size won't be a problem. PNG's and bmp's on the other hand can be ridiculously large.
3. Yeah they should be the same.
4. Tags are pretty new, but I'm guessing they work like on deviantart. Say your screenshot is dark blue, but the name is Glossy Orbs Gone Wild. If you search the gallery for dark blue shots, you won't find it because that's not the submission name. But, if you put dark, blue, etc for the tags, it *should* come up in a search. But that's just my theory on how it should work, it might have a different function, I don't think I've seen it explained just yet.

Ok I have some shots in my gallery so I can say :

I always use Printscreen/Paint/CtrlV/save as jpg file.
I upload 1920x1200 shots without any problem. Do you have higher ?
I upload the same file as preview/screenshot file.

About tags, didnt noticed that function before. I think its a way to go to gallery from a shot.

Bebi Bulma to the rescue. Thank you for your reply and help once again.

I just notice last night posts about the Tags. Won't need to use them for what I plan to do but it's something to remember is I ever try my hand at skinning.

windoe - Thanks for the reply. You and Bebi confirm each other. I'm only doing things at 1280X1024 so from what you say I should be okay. Thanks again.

Bebi Bulma - I suppose for some people not explaining what was funny is funny! Is this where we are supposed to laugh?

Yep, that's the plan...

Yep, that's the plan

Not happening right now, put a tag on one of my skins as a test. It does not come up on a gallery search using tag info. When go to skin and click to open tag and mouse over tag I added, tooltip comes up saying search for other skins tagged: then tag info.

Woo! Speculation is speculation folks. Always wait for an official response before assuming something is *supposed* to work a certain way But at least the speculation was close! Tags do not have a bearing on the search. Searching is focused on the description, skin name, and author of the skin. If you click one of the tags, you'll see that you're taken to a page which displays every skin (paged) which also is tagged with that tag. ie. skins.aspx?tag=coffee (yes, that exists, it was one of our test terms). The difference between searching and looking for tagged skins is that you can search on multiple termed phrases, tagging only allows for a one tag query. There's a method to this madness, unfortunately I can't go into the details just yet, and you all wont be able to see the result for a few months.

Hope that clears the air. Feel free to comment on the process and the functionality, but please know that this is set in stone and won't be changing (anytime soon, anyhow )
