explorer. exe

...can somebody please help me!!!???

Every time I want to change my desktop wallpaper (I go in *my Pictures*) and then all of a sudden my explorer.exe crashes (the mouse shows me some kind of backround activity before the crash) - it disappears for a few seconds and then it starts up again!!

I already closed my widgets, rainy and OD, but it still happens!!!

Does anybody have an idea what is wrong???!!!!

Hi Lovely62. I'll look when I get home tonight for the tool. It's available on the Microsoft Network somewhere as a free item to Windows customers.

Hi lovely62. Ok I did a little research, the Dump Reporting Tool is something you already should have with a current copy of XP SP2.
1. Click Start.
2. Right-click My Computer, then click Properties.
3. Click the Advanced tab.
4. Click Error Reporting.

That's basically it. I have mine set to enable error reporting for both Windows and Programs. When a crash occurs a Dump Reporting Tool panel shows up with the name of the program that crashed and offers to send it to Microsoft for analysis. You can choose to send it or not, but at least this way you will know for sure which program crashed. I hope that helps and answers your question.

It's likely going to be caused by a large picture in uncompressed format like a tiff. If you don't have sufficient memory to read the file and then create the thumbnail image explorer will crash. I used to have a very high res picture of the Declaration of Independence that caused me problems. Set the view to details if you can before the crash. Just my 2 cents.

...well, I did now everything I could think of , did the CCleaner, Registry Mechanic and everything else ( it found all together 400 Problems in the registry and 1200 in the CCleaner, jeeeehhh what a trashy PC I had there!!!), I went to my pics and it didn`t crash, hopefully it will stay that way now!!!!!!

I wanna thank everybody again very much for their help, I realy appreciate it a lot, my friends!!!!!

You need to run those programs after you install them Luv...just having them on the computer won't help you much..

I am really no expert in this, but maybe its one of those strange "Active Desktop" errors?

To turn off Active Desktop in XP:

1. Open Display Properties.
2. Click the Desktop tab.
3. Click the Customize Desktop button.
4. Click the Web tab in the Desktop Items window.
5. Clear any entries from the list (if any)

Copy 'n paste into START/RUN

regsvr32 shimgvw.dll

If you have any other graphic programs exclude them from being your default viewer.

Copy 'n paste into START/RUN

regsvr32 shimgvw.dll

If you have any other graphic programs exclude them from being your default viewer.

Click on the Start Menu > on the right panel click on Run > in the box that comes up type in regsvr32 shimgvw.dll and then hit OK

If you open any other graphics program go to it's options/configuration menu and see if it has a section on "File Types" or "File Format Associations" uncheck them from handling jpg, png, bmp etc.

As an example I have Paintshop Pro X, the steps would be..... File Menu > Preferences > File Format Associations > uncheck those I want to use the Viewer with........

c242, danke Dir!!!!!!
