Help Test the Upload System Upgrade
Now with progress bars and timers!
Monday, April 2, 2007 by Zoomba | Discussion: WinCustomize News
Ever since we launched Dream.WinCustomize.com earlier this year, we've been working on improvements to our upload system to handle large file sizes. In the past, users would just have clicked the submit button, waited and hoped it all worked. There was no display of upload progress, and for users with exceptionally large files to upload, often the browser would timeout. Well, we've made some steps to alleviate those problems. Now, there is an upload script in testing that shows a progress bar indicating how much of the file has been uploaded, the current transfer speed, as well as a time-left and time-elapsed counter. Improved error messages have also been added to help troubleshoot upload issues.
Net Dev is really close to signing off on the new upload script as "done" and have it be the main method people use to upload content, but before that happens, we need a week or two of heavy testing/usage to make sure we catch and iron out all the kinks. That's where you come in.
For the next few weeks, when you find yourself looking to upload something to the galleries, please use this link:
https://www.wincustomize.com/upload2.aspx
Also, post any feedback or issues you may encounter with it to the comments section below.

Uploaded to RightClick Gallery.
Upload fields looked no different - there was no progress bar at all and it seemed it uploaded per usual until page changed at end of upload and displayed:
Your skin has failed to upload.
Error code: UploadDetails
Edit: Just checked "My Skins" drop down list - no skin appears in moderation at this time .

Thanks for letting us know about the problems you are having with FireFox. It appears that the new build of FireFox has some timing issues with out upload process.
We put in some changes this morning that will hopefully take care of the problem. Let us know if there are any other problems.
At this time, it looks like noone is having any problems using IE 6 or 7.
Just as a note, there are no links on the website that will take you to the new upload page. You must link to it from here (https://www.wincustomize.com/upload2.aspx) or from a forum post. If you find yourself on https://www.wincustomize.com/upload.aspx, you are on the wrong page. The old page will not handle large files (files over 30MB). The two pages do look similar.

Each time would stop. 6%, 7%, 9% x2, and 14%. I'm on satellite and my TCP Acceleration would drop to 0%. I would then have to reboot my satellite each time.
To see if it was my problem, I uploaded to (my) site and 3 other sites, with no problems.
Then tried here again, same problem. Dead satellite acceleration. It would start out fine and then go dead.
So, had to upload using the old address, which failed the first time, but it finally uploaded.
I uploaded a Master skin on the 1st, but was told that it uploaded as a free skin, even though everything was filled out correctly. The reason I mention this, is because if there is a problem with the regular upload address (accepting none free skins) and I have to use upload2 for my skins, then I have a major problem.
Forgot to mention, using WindowXP, SP2, IE7.

Z71: Thanks for letting us know. If you notice above, though, we updated code yesterday (April 4, 2007) and Today (April 5, 2007). We are only updating the new upload2.aspx page as the old page will be removed soon.
As of today, I have yet to see anywhere that you uploaded with the new page. We are tracking this information so that we can track down bugs in the system.
If you don't mind trying things out, head to the new page https://www.wincustomize.com/upload2.aspx and let us know if you are still having problems.
Thanks,
Dean

I uploaded the StingRay skin on the 1st and 3rd. My first comment was made on the 3rd.
I'll see how it goes, when I have something else to upload.
I understand that you updated it on the 4th....so we'll see.

I tried twice (2) to do it with no success. My computer seized up and my satellite TCP Acceleration dropped to 0%, again.
Had to do a "Hard" reboot to both of them.
Windowblinds was 500 kb and the screenshot was 597 kb. Both small files.
First time stopped at 50%. Second time at 24%.
Also, there is no option on updates. You have to use that page (upload2) or nothing.
Yes, I know, I can use the old page and upload the skin under the same name. It will override it, but my update has a different name, so that option is out.
OR, I can just upload the update as a new skin. Didn't want to have to do that, but it might be my only option.....for now.
Running WindowXP, IE7.

This is what I got when I tried to upload my last wall. I had to go back to the old upload page to get it through.

Same here when I tried to upload my last blind (4-12), had to use the old upload page to get it through. On 4-13, I had to do a minor change to the description text....went through fine with the new upload page. Using XP2 and IE6.

Me too. I tried to upload WB and got that message so I clicked the link for the old page, it said OK. Then I uploaded a SMX and a CursorXP on the old page..OK, OK.
The cursors and the SMX are in the gallery the WB never showed.
