Non-Skinning With Permission?

I ran across something new to me here today, posting someone else's wallpaper, unaltered, from another site with permission.
My question is..Why?
The explanation was that the uploader liked the wallpaper and wanted to share it with the community.
Certainly many many walls are used here in Bootskins, Logons, and Screenshots with and without permission because people like them. But to post an unaltered wallpaper created by someone else that is posted at another site, with permission from the original creator, could open a floodgate and turn Wincustomize into another "Free Wallpapers, get 'em now" site.
There are hundreds of wallpapers that I and everyone else love at sites all over the Internet, but to get permission and post them here would be a mess.
It seems like a very bad idea to let something like this continue.

If someone was banned for posting inappropriate material and you reposted it with permission, you would be banned.
If you posted someone's material (with their permission) it would be accepted (as long as it met the other WC guidelines).
Over the years other people have pulled their skins or asked that their skins be removed. It would be unlikely that they would ask someone or grant permission for someone else to post their work here.
Again, I would rather see original artists post original work. The system allows and has always allowed for other works to be posted with permission. Some may take this "letter of the law" and use it to stretch the spirit and that's ok too.
In the end, we get more art here, right?
What would be a better answer?

There is no difference between what is being discussed and someone porting a msstyle to windowblind except a few more clicks.
Soooo What if someone is getting downloads? Big frikkin to do. If they take credit for making it, hang em.

How many times has it turned out that there was no permission at all. People lie.
I have taken the time to check on occasion when I have seen Artwork posted here that I knew I already had..and it turned out that the original artist didn't even know their work was here.
But, these are the rules so be it.

Or . . they are presenting art that they think the community here might like and the other artist doesn't want to spend teh time.
Stealing, ripping, and the like have never been tolerated here People like yourself being involved and interested in the copy rights of the artists is a great check and balance for the less honest among us.

Do you recall a certain person that ported a billion MS style blinds and did nothing to them then referred to them as " My windowblind" ? Tell me that didn't annoy you after spending 3 weeks skinning a blind.......and would you really want to see that again ?

and I will continue to report rips. Its not something I can just overlook..I know how much work some put into their work and its just not right for someone to claim it as their own.

The wall in question was first posted as a *Vista logon, correct?..
Usually, when permission is gained from the artist to use their work for "whatever" "project" a link directing downloaders to the original piece is given in the decription The reason being is that the original author not only gains due "notoriety" but also people may find other works at that authors site that may wish to either purchase or download as well..
You did not break any rules "persay".. the issue is really more about how you went about it, Proper or No? It may be "legal" but you wont be the most popular person with many of the skinners here that work hard on what they "contribute" to the community... But thats what you will have to deal with.

I made a comment concerning a different "small issue" I had with it, but that is an entirely different topic (which is addressed in another thread here) altogether.

Yeah, If I just "click, port, and upload" then I would agree with you. Ask Pas or Brewman if they port like that. They will laugh at you. A properly done port takes time.

Rick you know more than an other my feels about this.
I think all author at time he take the work of an other author for any works same or other with or without changing need to have the permission AND credit the original author too it's the less thing he can make. This is called respect. I'm not a angel and i've made mistake like many people.

It gave an answer to the question for ALL to see and the rules to abide by.
Perhaps , but I never mentioned anything about " Banned Artwork" that was tossed in as an extra...
But I guess we have the answer etched in stone now - Anything goes as long as you have that little permission note enclosed.
No need for further discussion...
