Updating your hardware drivers

Tuesday, March 27, 2007 by Philly0381 | Discussion: Personal Computing

I have come across a program call DriverMajic. It was provided free with one of my magazine subscriptions. It is supposed to go on line and check for driver updates for hardware you have in your computer.

I haven't tried it yet, was wondering if anyone has heard of it or used it and had any comments.

If the comp you own is an off the shelf model i.e hp,dell etc then any driver updates will be supplied by the maker or microsoft auto update which will only leave any 3rd party hardware like dvd burners or graphics cards etc to see if any updates are available, which you can do yourself, the only time i'd use that proggy would be to list the current installed versions other than that it just takes up space

xscorpx - Thanks for the reply. I have an off the shelf 3yr old Gateway. I wan't aware that microsoft auto update looked at drivers.

That leaves only the graphics card to worry about. It just seemed that it would be a nice tool to use to auto update drivers. Think I'll give it some more thought.

Well I decided to try the software, guess what it wasn't free. It let you download two driver updates and that was it. If you wanted more you had to buy the program. Oh well.

Very deceptive some of them. Tell you to tune your rig or rid it of malware etc. then the only thing it does is scan your computer and if there is a problem you got to pay to remove it..ie...buy the program. Which is why I don't bother with them. Been there done that. xscorpx suggestion about stumbleupon is a good one. Check it out. BTW...thanks xscorpx for the links. Oh...have you tried this one...WWW Link

Got to go now for some reason my computer is grumbling "FEED ME".
