another trick to getting a heap of downloads is to make a beautiful skin that people want, that way it will be downloaded without having to pull any tricks

Nimbin, your method requires actual work....
You hit the nail on the head, good skins are usually rec'd well (unless they get buried in a torrent of other skins in the same section if alot of other work gets uploaded during the same time and then it's just lost in space)

woohoo.. i will add a semi transparent dot to all my stuff and add the Vishta name to the front....
I mean who wouldnt want to get a skin that looks exactly like the OS.... as we speak im using a XP clone that looks so much like my default XP theme, that i actually cant tell its been skinned !!!!!!! woohoo..!!!! man im original....
now where did I put my New Emporers cloths?

Yes!!!! I'll get twice as large downloads by this way.
step 1: I'll recolor my widgets and upload them.

Look at all those ultra-minimal MSStyles, they are even mostly mimicking DOSShell.

tomorrow im taking my chevy minivan to the body shop and fork out big $$ to have them make it look exactly like a chevy minivan....il fool everybody !!! muhhaaaaa....

Find a wallpaper somewhere on the net.
Turn it into a bootskin.
Recolor it 20 times to make 20 different bootskins.
Upload.
After a month or so reupload them as updates

Not a bad idea, NT, but here's something even sneakier....time-stamp all your skins so they disappear or stop working after 10 days, end users think they've got a corrupt file and keep downloading them, over and over and over......
BTW: email me all the gooduns before ya add that to 'em.
