How many is too many??

I don't know about everybody else here, but everytime I look in our wallpaper section, I see it crowded with millions (I exaggerate) of fractal wallpapers. If this website restricts and moderates certain designs from being shown on our site, I believe its about time to restrict the majority of fractal designs, unless original or unique. I look at many of the designs, and I see the same thing, just with different colors, whereas other citizens are trying to post their original work and being denied. Also, many people that post 10 wallpapers at a time should group their walls into a "set" and try to limit the number of posts per day to one. There is nothing more frusterating than seeing 10 of the same designs, with different colors all on one page, and having to flip through many pages just to try and find the posts from the day before. This may just be a pet peeve of mine, and dont take this as complaining, because I love this place. Just, I want to see if anybody else out there sees this the same as I do.

The only place I see a flood of fractals is the bootskin gallery (maybe because I never check wallpapers). Seriously, they're numbered at like 156 now. Seems like it's just an outlet for someone's boredom or something. But IR said it...one man's trash...I just wish we could filter those things out somehow through personal settings.

I like doing fractals. I'm still getting the hang of apophosys and Fractal Draw Plus. I do agree that most look the same but...I try to make them as different as I can from one to another. One thing I find most annoying is repetition. When I use Gimp the Flame filter is somewhat randomized, which is a good thing. Another thing I like to do is use the fractal inside something. Be it a rainy or wall just not the fractal itself. Let the fractal be a part of rather than the whole. My opinion any way.

And if I remember correctly Frogboy mentioned that the wallpapers may have their own section under newest in the new gallery page

Personally it doesn't matter to me who uploads what, If I had been restricted when I first started out then skinning may not have kept my interest.
Would be nice if people would group similar work into packs.

To Uvah's point- many of the fractals in the gallery are the same, whether it be in bootskins (as Bebi pointed out) or in wallpapers. The problem is overloading those at wincustomize who have been given the task to moderate those sections. It seems to me as though packs will be accepted into the gallery more readily than a single wallpaper, because it provides the end user a one click access to many walls at once. So if you're new, and want to be noticed, it would be better to put even unrelated walls in a pack so that people can sample your work, and you'll have a better chance of being accepted. Also, if fractals are really so popular, it seems to me that there should be a way to access wallpapers that are all fractals, whether that be by sorting them or putting them in a "sub-gallery". (There are those who dont like fractals at all, and would prefer to sort them out also.) I simply see a trend towards a particular design, and I see so many of them now that I feel as though they should be recognized(or dealt with) in some significant way. But then again, I may be preaching to the choir here.

Aren't fractal images unique by nature, I doubt that I could recreate another persons fractal art unless I used the exact same fractal image generate, same specs, numbers, mathematics, etc.
If you want the site to be popular, you encourage users to subscribe to the site, purchase software & premium skins and upload their creations to the site to share with others.
If you start being restrictive and setting guidelines on art/image submission (placing restrictions & guidelines on art & creativity would seem to have a negative effect on the ability to produce artwork in the first place), I think you might find that some users will think the site is not for them and go else where.
Not everyone is going to have the same skill level and placing restrictions on the types of submissions may possibly send a message that only skinners of a certain ability can upload their work to the site.
I think it's a hard decision to make either way you look at it.

maybe setting longer moderation times may be the answer, instead of 5 days, maybe 10 days?

Wallpaper packs, subcategories, and a higher number of thumbnails per page while browsing would make finding the jewels among the millions much easier. I've resorted to browsing by artist only. Unfortunately, I end up missing many of the newer artists/submissions because they're buried among the masses...it's just too tedious.

I would like to see Boot Skins packs that not only have the "Windows XP" and "Windows Vista" whithout the "Logo". Some are great without it and I do know what system I have installed.

I do think wall packs of similar walls is a good idea(bootskins too),I do packs sometimes.
Yes it can be annoying to see 5 walls in a row that are very similar.
