DeskScape Update Error

Monday, March 12, 2007 by TheDude23112 | Discussion: Stardock Support General

I'm running MS Vista Ultimate. SDC says there is an update for DeskScape 1.00a[b].005. When I say update I get an error message that says "DeskScapes requires Windows XP or above to be installed".

You must update to the very latest SDC build.

As far as I can tell that is the latest beta release.

2.4 SDC is the latest version. Make sure you have "check for latest SDC updates" in your settings checked.

I've run into a similar problem, except my error states "DeskScapes requires Windows Vista Ultimate to be installed." I'm running Vista Ultimate 32-bit , DeskScape v. 1.00, and SDC v. 2.41.443. build 144. Crazy app doesn't even recongize that I'm running Vista. Have any idea what the problem might be, and the solution to it?

I have "Check for any Stardock Central (Beta/Release) updates". Can you please provide me a link.

I fixed it. I had to uninstall SDC; re-download SDC; re-update SDC.

I'm now having the same problem on a brand spanking newly installed copy of Vista Ultimate. Stardock Central tells me I have to have at least Windows XP to install DeskScapes!

I have uninstalled/reinstalled SDC (shouldn't matter, this was a new install on a newly installed windows), I have it set to check for beta release of SDC (didn't seem to find one), started as administrator, etc, it just WILL NOT install deskscapes.

Same problem here, with SDC ver 2.42.449, build: 141

Still a no go.....

I filed a support-ticket about that yesterday. I was asked for my DxDiag-file, which I sent back immediately.

I'll inform you if I hear about a solution.

There is an SDC build: 146. Not sure if that will help as I'm not running Vista yet.

SDC doesn't seem to update any further, even though "check for alpha/beta versions on startup..." is ticked.

Tried to uninstall > reboot > reinstall, SDC did not update to a newer version.

Well... I managed to get it installed, thanks to Nickie in #Stardock
but now I have the same problem as others are reporting here, when I try to update DeskScape.

Hank: SDC still won't 'detect' any new updates....

I'm at build 141, and it isn't detecting updates either.

Owell, all this was a waste of my time.

Turns out that even with deskscapes installed, 256mb of video memory isn't enough to run on dual monitors. Which makes deskscapes COMPLETELY USELESS for me.

I got sent a bat-file by Stardock support and a link to the newest version of SDC.

The bat-file was used to uninstall the previous version of SDC and erase all leftovers. However, the link provided in the support-email was to the exact same version of SDC which Snowman and I already have.

...short, it didn't work.

I sent back a report and gave them a link to this thread seeing that I am not the only one anymore.

I will keep you up to date, but I don't think anything will be changing until Monday evening (Europe-Time)...

I'm having the issue and tried it on two different copies of Vista Ultimate. Both come up with the XP error. I even tried installing DeskScapes separately and then try upgrading using SDC...but still got the error when trying to upgrade as well even though DeskScapes itself installed fine.

I finally logged onto IRC and got the sdcentral link from LickServ, that got me a different version than I am able to download from the stardock website - and it updated to the newest version correctly.

What did update to the newest version correctly? Deskscapes? Did you use SDC to update after you installed version 1.01 from the link provided by LickServ? If yes, to which version did it update?

sorry to ask holes into your belly, I am just still trying to fix my problem.
