Oh no not another Mac vs PC commercial!

The first few were funny now they are already getting boring

The original idea for these commercials is funny and eventhough I am a PC user I had a few good laughs when watching them but slowly they are getting boring already.

They point out some differences between Macs and PCs and most of them are true but there is one point that is totally wrong. They show that Macs are like fun and PCs are for serious work.

One question for Apple. How can you market your computers to be for fun if you have like 10 games released for them. I can't imagine having fun without playing computer games. And everybody that I know that bought a Mac they bought it for 'serious' work and not for fun. At home where the fun is going on everybody has a PC with games that Mac users can only dream about.

Mac OS is a great operating system and I wouldn't mind doing the 'serious' work in it but when it comes to my free time and fun I will take any PC with Win XP over an Apple with Mac OS.

Oh, but Macs and their users are such quirky wags...chuckle chuckle...choc-full of wry humour that is as funny as having your gonads caught in a mangle.

The pencil-neck with no shoulders probably HAS, too.....

One day Jobs will realise we don't laugh at the ads....we laugh AT the ads....

They've used some two funny comedians for their ads here in the UK. (Maybe you get the same)

I do find it really weird how the PC is all work work work and the Mac is all fun fun fun. I always ask, what is exactly the 'fun' part of Mac that I can't do on the PC...

As far as I know, the Mac is really good for video/graphic editting. That may be fun for some, but not exactly fun for the common computer wanter...

To me it does seem that the Mac is better designed for work and the PC is better designed for games and all the fun stuff...

I don't laugh AT the ads....not when they denigrate & ridicule something that works for me and I enjoy using - for fun. Nope, the Apple ads just piss me off big time....but then, 99.99999999 percent of ads piss me off big time.

I think Jobs is really alienating FAR more people than he is attracting with the ads personally.

a bit too "better than thou" for my liking.

oh and.. I'd never own a Mac. ) My Dualcore screamer is quite fast enough for anything I might be doing on a mac without having to relearn an OS.

The real barrier to owning a Mac is the embarrassment factor of associating yourself with some complete tossers.

I'm sure the average Mac user cringes at the sight of such things.

I don't know how they expect people to switch to Mac by insulting them

Well, it looks like a case of mis-marketing to me. It's a huge stereotype that PC users are suits and Mac users are sort-of twentysomething slackers who spend most of their days using iPods and creating content with various other idevices and Adobe software. I see Macs as having serious applications for desktop publishing and graphic arts design, and there are probably a lot of computer professionals who use them. The OS does tend to be more stable than Windows and Apple tends to make it easy and take guesswork out of using new peripherals and upgrades. So I think it's dumb of Jobs to take this approach to marketing the computers. They are good for what they do; they're just expensive and limited by the available native software and a much smaller field of third-party expansions. I think the intended emphasis on "fun" is not directly related to gaming, because I don't think Macs were ever intended to be used as a gaming platform (if so, it was a miserable failure), but more along the lines of multimedia applications like MP3 downloads and content creation.

Since I switched over from the Amiga platform when Commodore slowly died, I have been a PC user. It is the most versatile computer platform widely available today, thanks in large measure to its non-proprietary architecture. Given enough time and money, you can design a PC specifically for any task that a microcomputer is capable of performing. Macs are rather more limited, again due in large measure to their closed, proprietary hardware. This has always been the Mac's greatest strength and weakness, and I don't seriously see Macs ever taking the lion's share of the home computer market because of this double-edged sword. In truth, it's difficult to say whether the Mac has a long-term future outside of specialized applications; the iPod line probably bought the computers a reprieve, but I suspect that the future of the Macintosh computer is by no means clear.

That's my opinion. For those like Sir Starkers who are offended by the commercials, I suggest the link below. It's a compilation on the Gizmodo site of the most populat parodies of these commercials. I think the Linux one is the best.

Advertising companies are strange animals....probably still seen in the wild resplendent in ponytails and grandfather shirts...but they know their craft.

The more abhorent the commercial the more it's talked about...reviled at length.

Good or bad reception matters diddly-squat as long as the product is in the public consciousness.

Sadly, we are all aiding and abetting Mac's cause, even here.

There WILL, however be a measurable proportion of the audience who will simply cite these Ads as just one more reason NOT to chuck any money Apple's way.

I am one...

If the collective vibe it creates in the public consciousness is a negative one..not so good for the so called in-sight\cite-ful Ad wizards.

This thread only furthers my negative opinion of Mac and its peripherals.
