Wont Start with windows........

Saturday, February 24, 2007 by Raven2043 | Discussion: DesktopX

I have Object Desktop and prior to a crash had no problems.DesktopX will not star with windows, even though its set to do so...I am at a loss as to what I can do...I have to start it manually each time windows starts.

DeskTopX refuses to start with Windows for me too.

I've tried clearing the cache twice now and it's made no difference. I also have "RightClick" installed plus WindowFX. WindowFX starts with Windows but RightClick has never started with Windows either.

To be honest, I'm getting kind of annoyed about this - how hard is it to write an entry to the start up items? There's countless amounts of software out there doing that successfully, why is the supposedly "Windows Certified" Object Desktop struggling with this basic procedure?

If you don't have WindowFX run at start - do the other 2?

Is MCP SmartStartup enabled?

Running WinXp Pro.

What's MCP SmartStartup?

I'll disable WindowFx and see what happens.

Do you have Stardock Central?

If so, open it - tools -settings - then under: settings - general - there's an option to Enable MCP SmartStartup

Okay, I actually have MCP SmartStartup enabled - didn't realise, I guess it defaulted to enabled. While I was there I checked to see if I needed updates but I don't (I only bought DesktopX a few days ago)

I've unloaded WindoFX, switched off it's startup option, cleared the DestopX cache again, started it, enabled the Start with Windows option in DesktopX and restarted but still same story, just loads a normal XP desktop. RightClick also does not load.

One thing I've noticed is that if I use a startup manager program to see what is scheduled to startup with windows, WindowsFX has (had) an entry there but neither DesktopX or RightClick get an entry in startup Folder or the Registry: eg if I load something like "Codestuff Starter", there's nothing for stardock products at all now, if I click off the 'start with windows' option in either DesktopX or RightClick, apply, click it back on again, still nothing shows up inside Codestuff Starter as being enabled for Windows Startup?

Okay,
think it's working now.

Thanks for that pointer to the setting in Stardock Central, didn't know it existed.

I turned off the MCP SmartStartup altogether. Then went about deleting the caches again but this time found a SDCentral folder in the Temp directory which I hadn't spotted before so deleted that too. Restarted. Then went about enabling MCP SmartStartup. Restarted and all sorts of new stuff happened! RightClick is enbled, I've new items in systray... etc etc. So, reset everything the way I wanted it to startup, restarted again(!), and desktopX loaded with my settings okay...

phew!

So thanks for replies, they at least got me pointed in the right directions
