How do I change the name of a shortcut in a Desktop X theme?

Thursday, February 8, 2007 by WolfWizard | Discussion: Beginners

Hello, I'm new to this program and I have a bit of a problem. I am not sure how to properly change the name or location of a shortcut in a Desktop X theme. I recently downloaded Vista Style by Gef ( https://www.wincustomize.com/skins.aspx?skinid=3623&libid=31 ), which is the Desktop X theme I am trying to customize. Does anyone know any good tutorials for beginners or could tell me how to rename and relink the shortcuts? Thank you so much for your time, Taylor

You have to switch to DesktopX Builder Mode. This can be done buy running the "DesktopXBuilder.exe or by running the client version DesktopX (which should be the default). If you choose the ladder, right-click on the DX icon in the system tray and select switch to builder mode (or something similiar). Once in Builder mode, you'll have to right-click all the objects you want to customize to get the options available. In this case you'll need to change two options. Right-click the "text" object you want to customize and select Properties > then the "General" tab > now click browse under the location option. This is where you tell the object to link to. The next step would be to change the actual text > click the "States" tab > then the "appearance" tab under the states tab and delete the text you see replacing it with whatever you like. Now directly above that there are "mouse-over" options, remember to click each option and then replace the text or "name of the object link". Otherwise when you mouse over or push down it will be the default of what the author had intended it for.

Good Luck!

Thank you so much, KiloKrash. That helped a great deal and now I understand how to rename and link the text objects. You explained the instructions very well, and I thank you for that and your time.

And thank you, Gef, for personally coming to help as well. I love your Desktop X Vista Style; it is extrememly well made and simply gorgous. ^^ And thank you for the offer, I will certainly email if I need more help.
