Bootskin Error

I'm rather confused, now I've made a fair few bootskins and to actually use them I normally get the main bitmap, the progress bar bitmap and the .ini file, zip them then change the extension to .bootskin and it's always worked, but on my latest one it wont, says there was an error and it might be due to a corrupt file or something. Now just in case I did something wrong I did the same thing with another bootskin, one that I knew had worked, and the same problem again.

Any ideas folks?

Not really sure what you mean when you said you did the same thing with another that worked?

Give the exact error message that is being displayed?

What's the name of the .ini?

Load the bootskin file so we can check it out.

When I am working on a bootskin, when have image and progress bar ready I put them in a folder and move that folder to C:\Program Files\Stardock\WinCustomize\BootSkin\skins.
I then copy in a .ini and set it up for skin. This way it will show up in list in bootskin unless there are any errors. When all is good and you want to upload, open bootskin, select skin in list, File, Export selected skin to file, this will create proper .bootskin file for you.

Are you useing the same compresion program that you used before. This can have a small effect on compressed files sometimes.

Ok, I'm resurrecting this again because the problem went away for a while but is back again. Trying the compression method (get the compressed folder and renaming the extension to .bootskin) gets me an error if I use WinRAR and no error with WinZIP, however even though it says the skin was imported successfully it still doesn't show up in the list of skins when I open the Bootskin program. Now just in case something had gone wrong with the colours and the progress bar I made a replica of my new bootskin without a progress bar and exactly the same issues...I don't get what's happening at all since I'm following the EXACT process I always have. It just seems to randomly stop working.

i experienced and tried that but dont have vidstub.sys... so i tried almost everything, from updating my drivers, fixing the bios, etch... and here's what i discover... i formatted my pc. install bootskin. then install my other programs and restart after each installation, thinking that maybe some of my programs are affecting my bootskin problem,. and damn i was right. i found that my Folder Security is causing the bootskin error. i dont really know how or why. im not a computer expert. but i verified it many times. so i uninstall it and my bootskin dont have any problems now. i guess some of your programs are affecting bootskin also. so format your pc. and restart after installing a program... to know if it is affecting your bootskin. thanks.

or if you dont want to format. just uninstall a program-restart-reinstall-restart.
