Object Desktop

Shoudl I buy it now or later?

Sunday, January 21, 2007 by Ricky Angel | Discussion: OS Customization

I was just wondering, So if I buy Object desktop (The whole set) right now, It wouldnt work with Vista and I'D have to buy it again?. But if I do buy it later with the one that can work with Vista will it work with Xp?

Cause right now, Im not sure if the new Vista Object Desktop will work with XP..

OR if the one currently can be updated for free.

With Object Desktop you get all updates for apps during your subscription time, this would include all updates for Vista. Some of the OD apps are already in Beta for Vista.
As an OD subscriber you have access to the betas to use them if you wish.

Missed this part, XP is not going away any time soon so OD apps will support both XP and Vista.

Buy it now and enjoy it on XP and know you will be ready to customize Vista when you get it.

I am currently on XP running the latest Beta of WindowBlinds, beta of 5.5 which if for Vista support; it runs great on XP. IconPackager is also in Beta for Vista, I have not upgraded as since it is first beta a couple things have been turn off for it.

Each program has a EULA

from the DesktopX EULA:

YOU MAY:
1. Install and use one copy of the
SOFTWARE on a single computer.
2. Install a second copy of the SOFTWARE on a
second computer only if you are the main user of
this computer (home computer or laptop for
example).
3. Install the SOFTWARE on another computer only
if you change your main workstation. In such a case
you must uninstall the software from the old
computer.
4. Use the SOFTWARE via a network, only if you
have purchased an adequate number of licenses.
The number of users must not exceed the number of
licenses you have purchased.
5. Make a copy of the SOFTWARE for archival
purposes only.

Btw..Whats a network edition of Object Desktop

That would be under #4 above. If you are the employer you can purchase a network edition (with a number of licenses) in order for your workforce to enjoy it. That way your employees won't have to try and circumvent your security and sneak a copy in.

You would not have to buy it again.  As was said above you will receive updates for one year, and Object Desktop subscribers  get access to betas as well.

Right now Windowblinds 5.5 which supports Vista, is available for Object Desktop users.

If there are any other questions, please feel free to ask.
