User Account name being cut off with several skins

Friday, January 19, 2007 by SirBedwyr | Discussion: SkinStudio

Hi.  I'm noticing with several skins that my windows account name is being cut off on the right on several skin designs such as Slate X by Josephs and Clear XP by CycoCed.  This is a complaint noted by a few people, but not fixed or worked on by the skin author so I decided to dig into it for myself.

I checked the settings in SkinStudio and I don't understand quite how the settings work or what they're in relation to.  The username in both (and others) are right justified.  The text position shift in Slate X has a -20 value, -126 in the compact version, but in relation to what?  The left?  Right?  Middle?  what??  I've got no frame of reference for what this means so I can fix it.

Likewise I can't figure out what controls the location of the user account thumbnail picture and orientation.  How do you get it to offset 20 or 30 or 40 pixels from the left, right, top, etc?  Content and sizing margins don't seem to control it the way I expect.

Thanks,
Bedwyr

ps - I'm starting to notice a trend here after renewing my OD subscription and reading Brad's year-end blog.  The documentation is really really spotty.  I can find no user manual I can turn to or index or help file I can use without trying a bunch of things randomly in the software and then coming with embarrased newbie questions.  This is becoming embarrasing and insulting and it wastes scads of my time.  As good and intuitive as the software is, there's just times that you need to refer to the doggoned instructions.

Is there complete documentation for the software I've purchased but have just missed it somewhere?

Content margins will move many things.Sometimes trial and error is all there is.
Personally on my own skins I hide both because they mess with the graphics and I dont have to fiddle with alignment issues.

Hide user pick has a setting on the user pane...hiding the text is assigning a font, then rotating it -1800.
