Large Icons on Desktop
Wednesday, October 18, 2006 by Phillip Kovats | Discussion: Beginners
I've seen some fantastic screenshots that include very large Icons (My Computer, My Documents, etc.) on the desktop. How is this achieved? I've done some poking around, but I have not found a solution to this style.
Thank you very much for the help.
Cheers,
Phil

I own both Desktop X and IconPackager ..... I've looked a bit and I see that the Icons are scalable, but the actual application of the scaling is what's escaping me. I'm not looking to create a new Widget. I only want 3 - 5 Icons on my Desktop, but I would like to scale them a bit larger that what Windows allows. I'll look a bit further into those Apps and see if I come up with anything new.
Cheers,
Phil

Right click and configure
Load Huge on the first tab.
Tweak using the second after you apply.

desktopX
right click tray icon = new object
general tab
object type - shortcut (take your pick - file/folder - check the dropdowns)
default appearance = browse to icon of choice (ico much easier to resize to suit)
states tab
set your icon size to suit
repeat 2-4 times
right click desktop, arrange icons by, uncheck show icons
tada

Both the IconX and DesktopX methods worked great.
I appreciate your help and look forward to more involvement in the community.
Cheers,
Phil

So can DesktopX
So can IconPackager ( I think)
All of the above apps are available through Stardock
Another (non-Stardock) option is avedesk
IconX is the easiest I think.
