Trying to dominate the Software Kingdom again?

Microsoft plans to release by year's end an initial test version of a new product to protect business desktops, laptops and file servers against malicious code attacks, reports CNET News.com.
The new Microsoft Client Protection product will guard against threats such as spyware, viruses and rootkits. The software will offer IT administrators central management capabilities and work with Microsoft's Active Directory and Windows Server Updates Services patch management tool.
Microsoft did not say how much the new product will cost or when it will be available in final form. A "limited beta" is due out by the end of the year and Microsoft plans to share additional details on the new product in the coming months.
Microsoft has also announced the formation of the "SecureIT Alliance", a new group focused on providing security products to users of Microsoft products. The alliance includes Symantec, McAfee and Trend Micro, along with F-Secure and VeriSign.
So, what can we expect? A more secured OS: Microsoft Windows Vista + Microsoft Anti-Spyware + Microsoft Anti-Virus + Microsoft Windows Firewall + Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 + ....

Kaspersky welcomes Microsoft antivirus move
Eugene Kaspersky, founder of Moscow-based Kaspersky Labs, said he isn't concerned by Microsoft's potential charge into the antivirus space because he believes no single company can dominate that particular market.
But, I think they are trying to dominate the Software Kingdom again.

Don't expect too much from MS. The AV may itself contain V/Worms.

The top companies have done very well in this market. The reason Microsoft has not gone here before? It requires constant vigilance.
It is 10 years over due to be a part of the OS. But I am not buying their snake oil yet. I like my McAfee and Norton (just the AV! No flames please). Microsoft may get there in the future, but it is going to take a long time.
