create new object - round object shows up, with object properties menu
object type - pull drop down and change from layer to shortcut
click folder shortcut
pick a folder from the list or browse to one
open as popup menu or leave unchecked to open folder

Try right clicking your object and selecting properties. From the General tab where it says Object Type: to the right of that click Change and from the top drop down arrow where it right now probably says layer change it to Shortcut. If you want a file shortcut, just browse for the program you want your object to start. If you want a folder shortcut, just select folder shortcut and browse for the folder you want your object to open.
