Streaming Audio

Friday, October 6, 2006 by Gregory2001 | Discussion: DesktopX

Is there such a thing as a media player that can show artist/album/song info for streaming radio? Thanks.

maybe. would there not first have to be radio that streams that information?

i'm on dialup, so streaming is a vague concept for me.

Live 365. Not free, but worth it to me. Will post URL here.
Here's the signup link for free trial. WWW Link My Favorite: BikerBarRadio
Enjoy!

Also look at Pandora. It's free and you can train it to play what you like. WWW Link

My question is why DX media players won't show this info for streaming internet audio.

They can if you use Winamp! Just use the Clip Name (found in Additional Abilities!) and you should have the stream details there

Does that mean "no"?

DX can read many properties of many systems.
The first requirement is that the streaming media player has to display said content.
The second is that it is in a format that DX can pick up and parse.
The third is that code needs to be written
in DX to call that data (or API, webservice, etc.).

You have a particular target in mind? (For what it's worth, many audio streamers generate revenue from ads on the site or player and don't make it easy to hijack content.

RomanDA created a fairly simple widget for Pandora that I have embedded in my object bar that simply rocks.

EDIT: looking back at your previous posts I see you have made the same request for XM and yahoo . . . you might try asking your target steams owner to help you with their side befoer you ask here.

Sorry. I was referring to Desktop X. All the players here do not.

let me see if i can help explain.

As you can see by the screen shot above that the DX Media Player Plugin
has a LOT of options for different players.

1. Winamp / QCD
2. iTunes
3. CoolPlayer
4. Objectmedia-Stardock Player
5. WMP

you have to PICK which one you want the player to use, then your TAGS will come from that programs interface.

Next time, do a little research before you reply to someone who is TRYING to help you!

Everything you say is correct except for the fact that it will not show artist/album/song info for streaming audio (as in internet radio). CDs, yes. Radio, no.

I see what you mean now... Usually the Radio Streams just display the title of the stream not what is actually playing (although through ShoutCast & Winamp it is possible to display track and artist info) But in the case of DX using winamp to display track artist info. DX generally splits the playlist item (i.e. "Rammstein - Mutter" at the " - " then says the first part is the Artist (returning "Rammstein") and the second part would be the title (returning "Mutter").

Now having said that! I've just made an object in DX used the DXPlayer ability and loaded a Radio Stream in Winamp.. result: "Saliva - I Walk Alone (VampireFreaks.com Radio)" soo.... It really depends on the Stream then

Didn't I say that in the second item?
