Very obscure icon problem.

Hi everyone I have a bit of a problem with my icons. Yesterday I turned on my computer and the display had changed somewhat. The icons had all got bigger, shifted around the screen and the color behind text of each icon had turned a horrible blue color. The original color simply used to be the desktop or translucent (if you know what I mean). I've tried everything to make it go back to it's original but I simply don't know how. I've gone to the display properties, but there are no options for selecting no color for the icons.
I was running the Vista skin pack when this happened. I'd been using the skin for over a year, so I don't think it was that but just to make sure I uninstalled it anyway.
I aslo went to the performance settings and removed the check box 'Use drop shadows for icon labels on the desktop' but nothing happens. Not just that, but other small problems with the display are also problematic.
After trying to download the Vista pack again it made no change, although my skin looked fine. The icons, however remained just as ugly with a colored box around them.
I was wondering if I could download a program to fix this, or is there something else that I'm not quite seeing.
Any help would be grateful.
C.
