Wednesday, March 6, 2002 by Frogboy | Discussion: GUI Championships News

Go and vote for the skins that use sound effects most effectively. WindowBlinds supports user itnerfaces in which the various controls can make different sound effects when clicked on.

Um... Are There Even 5 Skins That use Sounds That We Could Vote For? I Know CrudeMetals Does (Shameless Plug) But Other Than That I don't Recall Seeing Any Others.

I know Alexandrie's "LOS" and "Z" does, and I'm sure there are quite a few more.. though i don't know which ones

Lots of them do... Painted Metal has very original sounds for example... I went through all the skins looking for wave files and found there were quite a few. (including seti green)

The finalist list is a crock of shit (Not the actual skins). As I said on the messageboard, there's quite a few that don't even have sound, my 911 skin being an example. The skins that do have sound belong there, but it's plainly obvious that the public are voting blindly (Or perhaps 'deafly' in this case), and not downloading the skins before voting.

Of course, one plausable explanation is that a busload of stupid people pulled up outside the voting booth.......

I agree Hippy. One of my skins is on there too, and it certainly doesn't support sounds. Are all the skins that DO support sound in the list though? Obviously the judges won't pay any attention to the extra ones.

Actually, the finalist list is only supposed to be the top 10 since there are not that many skins with sounds. I will need to adjust that.

Aha, so that's why the list went down froms several dozens to the current ten. I did see a busload of hippies pull up at the booth though.

I'm curious, were those extra skins there by accident, or did people actually vote for them?

If they were there, people voted for them, I'd say.

Obviously the ballots were confusing and people thought they were voting for a noisy Democrat skin when actually the hanging chads caused their vote to be cast for a soundless Republican skin...

Must've been those first-time users mistaking their system sounds for WB, of course.......

So, will we be seeing a 'best use of silence' category in the summer Glimpics?......

If it is set to list 20 skins, it's going to list 20 skins. Even if only 14 skins had sound, it would still list 20 skins where 14 would have votes and it would pick the first 6 by SkinID. So even without votes, it would still show skins that didn't have sound. Now it's fixed though.
