upload failed to meet guidlines?

Monday, August 28, 2006 by FL3A | Discussion: New Users

I recently submitted a logon screen that was denied. The only thing that was not my work was the photo of the girl of which I have received permission to use. Other than that, there's no information on why it was declined and I cannot think of any other reasons why it would be declined. The "email us" link on the guidlines page does not work. How should I have this handled?

I'm not sure but you may be asked to remove the local link you have for logon studio.

Well, the links I have on my site should have nothing to do with what I uploaded to this site. Anyone? Any mods around?

Phoon is family around here . . you would do well to heed his advice.

I browsed through Stardock's site and they have no mention about providing alternate download links. If they ask me to take it down I will. Back to the original question, how do I find out why my upload was denied?

Did the E-mail read :

"Thank you for your recent upload of your _____ for Logons
Unfortunately your upload has not met our guidelines and has been rejected. There was gremlins in the system, you will need to reupload.

However we do look forward to your future submissions.

Sincerely,
The WinCustomize Staff"

Did you make it clear in the upload comments section that you had permission to use that photograph?  If you failed to specify that, we tend to default to "He must not have permission" since we get so many people ripping others photos and graphics here.

The rejection email you got should have the reply-to address for whichever moderator looked over your submission.  You could try emailing them and asking.

If the e-mail had this line in it, then just try to reupload and see what happens.

If they ask me to take it down I will.

Redistribution of proprietary content without formal express permission would be a copyright issue.

An example of why it would be undesirable....

Stardock discovers a fatal error in the program...and withdraws it or replaces it with a corrected ver, yet a third party continues to distribute the flawed version unaware of the fault.  Subsequent users complain to the owner [Stardock] for restitution, rather than the unauthorised distributor whose fault it is.

I think you can consider yourself 'asked'....

The problem with a logon/wall/bootskin such as this one is that it's usually expected that such a photo is used without consent, or it is akin to a photo of your pet dog Fido and thus only likely to be of popular appeal to those who might know who Fido is.

The former would likely be rejected...the latter possibly accepted for your 'Personal Page'.

Other than that, over the past day or two, uploads to the site have failed and many requests have gone out for re-uploads...[as SIXX21 has mentioned]...and yours may have been one of them.  Check the email wording....

I checked the submitted upload.  The preview was of the wall only [bitmap100], and not an actual preview of a logon at all, hence its rejection...

Hey FL3A....Try doing this…..when you have completed your logon and are ready to upload it to WC….open logonstudio and apply your logon…then, while the logon is the only thing showing on your desktop make a screen shot of it…..should be able to use your (Print-Scrn/SysRq) button on your keyboard…..it’s to the left of your ScrollLock button. Then logon to your desktop and paste the screen shot into your graphics program and save it as(.jpg) now use this image for the preview that you upload with your logon. Hope this makes sense and help you.

Thanks guys. The preview should have been of the logon screen. I use VMWare and took a screen shot of the logon screen in VMWare. I got 2 emails, both with the same generic message, but one of them had a reply to address. I'll email him.
As for the link, Logon Studio isn't supported anymore so I'd just like to have it at a handy place to download.
Thanks.

It's still available and belongs to Stardock even though they don't offer support.
You've been asked to remove it from public access. Keep it on CD for personal use.
