logon studio not working

I downloaded logon studio and that comes up just fine. Everytime I try to download a skin it won't load into the studio.

how are you downloading?
what browser?
what file extension does it down load as?

I use Mozilla Firefox, but I also tried it with IE

IE may want to download as a .zip
Firefox should correctly call it a .logonxp

are you saving it? or using open with Logon Studio?

yeah, I am having the same difficulty;have used LogonStudio for 2 yrs & now since I have recently done a 'restore', it will not 'load';the app installs but the Logon screen will not load;ditto for using the Bootskin app;the app loads but the skins will not install;is it Windows security or another customization like the Vista Customization pack V 3.6 suite preventing this? Any and all advise & or troubleshooting would be very much appreciated.

How do you have user accounts?
Use the welcome?
Enable fast user switching? (not sure that applies - but I have it enabled)

thx for your prompt response Bichur...I am the only user authorized on my Lap...actually had to disable 'password' & use the Windows default 'Welcome' as the password enabled would not prompt the customized Logon screen...& yes, I have 'Faster User Switching' enabled - totally mystified why this has suddenly occurred after 2 yrs of faultless use.

using a password should work.
create a 2nd limited user account. Just for looks.


I had 3 accounts once (mine, wife's, and one for my kid to play games and paint).
had use the welcome and fast user switching enabled - using passwords (2 accounts used them at one time, just testing them out) had no effect on logon studio (just had to use a password).

can't help with bootskin - I've tried all 3 and not one ever actually showed up.
they all installed - let me configure - but no other boot than default ever showed - at least I didn't get any blue screens.

thx for the detailed feedback Bichur;might try the several account approach as you are suggesting but really the Boot & Logon customizations aren't that important to me really;was just curious why this would be the case after 2 yrs of faultless use....just pleased every other Stardock customization I own like WB, Window FX, Iconpackager, ObjectDock & Object Bar work flawlessly;could never endure a default Windows interface at this point;too stark, sterile & 2 dimensional;Stardock products really do make one's interface a pleasure to utilize partnered with the submissions magnamimously offered by extremely talented skinners on this site;their collective oevre truly is amoung the most refined to be found on the Net

Thanks for your response! I've also been using longon for a couple years and had no trouble with it. I don't know what the problem is. The only screens that show up and load are Welcome 1, 2 & 3. I can download, save and open the other logon screens but they won't show up in the editor! I have unzipped, re-installed, everything I can think of, it just doesn't work.

You can also try unzipping and putting the folder in you logon folder: C:/Program Files/Wincustomize/Logon Studio. If that doesn't work, something is really messed up.

have done that exactly Boss to no avail....I figure it's the Windows security update w regard to the GDI or the Vista Customization pack v 3.6 that writes over the Windows protection dialogues...all in all it does seem odd, yes

Yeah, if it's in the LS folder (the logon folder with just the bmps and uifile and theme.ini file, not a folder inside a folder) then it has to be something more involved. Good luck with it.

I don't do boots, but thanks for the great comment on my logons. I'm always seeing weird problems with LS, sometimes it's the user that doesn't quite understand how to install them, sometimes it's the program itself that has somehow gotten corrupted. Lots of times it's just a logon that doesn't work. But if you figure it out, post it here so I can pass it on as something else to try if I find someone with a similar problem.

k...I think in my instance it is my Vista Transformation pack 5.o which re-writes some Window protection dialogues;this all occurred when I had to restore my Lap due to it slowing down due to obsolete apps I used for Spyware & Registry maintenance i.e. PC Tools Spyware Doctor + Registry Mechanic, which for a yr + a hlf thought state of the art; & after 'restoring' the OS with the Toshiba OS disc, Bootskins & Logon Studio would no longer load the skins I have been using for quite some time;I back all my apps, docs & customizations on a 40 gig USB;if it isn't due to Microsoft updates then it has to be due to the customization suite; but that is OK as it is a trade off I do not mind; thx for considering my situation & attempting to troubleshoot

I had a problem using Vista Transformation Pack 5! If the transfo pack is installed, Logon Studio works fine and the Vista UI etc looks the biz! However, I have had to remove the transfo pack as it was messing around with opening links in IE 6 or 7 and for some reason, nothing would activate any links anywhere, not even in emails when I allowed them to be opened. After I removed Vista Transformation Pack 5, everything works fine, except the Logon Studio?
