Hello All..
I have searched google for hours and hours, but haven't came
across what I am looking for. I am by no means a computer programmer, so I'm
going to offer someone a task to do, and get paid for successfully doing it (via
Paypal.. current offer is $15 USD, but willing to give tips up to $30USD
depending on how quick you get it done, and how perfect it is to my liking.)
IMPORTANT!!!!!!!!!
And to be loyal to all of the willing programmers, I will do
a remote desktop session with you, when you send me the widget, and will test
it INFRONT of you, and will pay you on the spot, just so no one accuses me of
using the widget and not living up to my word and paying.
Here's my request..
A widget that will display my Wireless Connection's speed by
means of TEXT in the SYSTEM TRAY, such as 11mbps, 5.5, and so on. It also must
display SIGNAL STRENGTH in TEXT, such as 73%, 95% and so on. Since it would be
awkward and too tiny to display all of that in one 16x16 icon, I would like the
icon to 'switch' between the two values back and forth EVERY second. To
distinguish them apart, I ask that you include the percentage sign (%) with the
SIGNAL STRENGTH value. So, one second it would read something like
this (
), and the next second it would be like. (
)
Back and forth.
any other creative suggestions are welcome, but please
create a Paint Image and send it before you start working on the widget.
No fancy settings are required to change the colours or w/e.
It CANNOT be a CPU or RAM hog. Keep in mind that the widget MUST display
ACCURATE numbers, and i will not accept it if they are more than 3-5 seconds
behind (I will check the numbers via my Router's Status page during the
remote desktop session...) KEEP IN MIND that I am currently running Windows XP
SP2.

I think that is a tad skimpy. I'm not a programmer by trade, but I can assure you that the hourly rate you offer is well below market value.

$15 is what an end user might pay to purchase a utility, but it costs far more to develop one. When even the smallest company charges $15 for a program, they've likely invested thousands of dollars into creating it. Their hope is that they will sell enough copies to cover their investment, and then maybe make a profit, if they're lucky. Even the basement developer who works in his/her free time is investing just that...time. If this took someone 20 hours to develop, you'd be asking them to work for a little more than 75 cents per hour. I don't know anyone who would value thier time that low.
My advice would be to round up 20 friends who are also willing to pay $15 for it, and then you might be able to afford to hire a developer to make it happen.
However, as RomanDA said, DesktopX can't be used to make widgets that run in the system tray. Widgets/gadgets can have tray icons, but only for hiding/unhiding the app, or opening its options. The widget/gadget itself must function on the desktop.

DX can display the systray icons in/as an object I think. But what you describe would be a replica startbar recreated in DX that would hide the default startbar and would then have teh WiFi meter displayed next to the systray icons to appear as part of the tray icons.
Another option is to use ObjectBar to replace the Widows standard and embed the WiFI widget in that.
WickedIP has some awesome WiFi meters. Those could be modified (with permission) to fit.

Two, im not sure DX can write into the system try, as i have never seen this ability used.
