Unable to log onto forums in FF and IE

Tuesday, July 25, 2006 by PoSmedley | Discussion: WinCustomize Site Issues

This has been an ongoing problem I have mentioned in other threads. Now, it's gotten worse and it won't go away.

First, when I go to the main page, the resolutuion seems off and it's not centered. Before, I would not be able to sign on when it did this and had to refresh to get it back to normal. Now I can sign on, but it still runs off my screen.

When I try to log into forums on IE and FF, this is what I get.

The little 'nickname' window vanishes after 3 or 4 seconds and I am left with just the regular sign in windows which will not sign me in. I don't get an error or any message, it just won't sign me in.

Now, I have the NoScript extension on FF ALLOWING WC, SD and everything connected. I have ZA and allow all but THIRD party cookies. I have tried shutting both off. I have tried allowing 3rd party cookies. I have tried signing on with my nick and my email. Nothing will sign me inot the forums on FF or IE. None of my settings have been altered in months, except for the things listed that I have tried to get signed on. I'm getting so freakin frustrated with this. It just seems as soon as something is fixed or added or changed, I have new problems or old ones come back. Thids is the only site that I run into these kinds of problems with, the ones mentioned here and then the on and off again avatar problem, quote problem, image link problem...etc.

Please...puh-leeze tell me it can be fixed or it's gonna end soon.

Sorry for the lengthy whine. I realize I have broken my own rule here.

Have you tried deleting all your cookies and clearing your browser(s) cache, then reboot? It might help.

Because you're saying that it is occuring in both FF and IE it has got to be something either in Windows (Internet Settings) or an SD product. Something that is affecting your whole computer system not just one program or the other. FF and IE don't share programming code per se so that is the only thing I can think of.

Hmm, I dont think its even close to feasable that its a Stardock prog. I concur with Lantec... try clearing your cache and deleting the WinC/Stardock cookies.

I've been having similar problems now with logging in. My title on the main page is now "Citizen Sd User" but if I go to another page its Journey WebGizmos...but when I go back ti the main page its back to the Sd User nic. Killing cookies and logging back in fixed it for a second but then reverted back to the same problem. I didn't have this problem until yesterday and I've made no changes to any settings nor did I install any new software that might have changed anything...this is totally a site problem. I never have these problems with any other site and I have absolutely no doubt that this problem is being caused by the site itself.

Po...if this is only just a new issue...within the last 24 hours or so...it's probably due to an update to the Forums that Andrew did last night [my time]...about 12 hours ago.  One addition was/is the 'titles' coming back...so that explains Web's problem/s.

I still got into here OK...but then I hadn't left [in IE7]...

I'll try FF and Opera...see if it can be repeated...

Po'Smedly, I'm sorry that you're having so many issues trying to work with the new forums. Try as I might (and I have others trying to break it) I just can't reproduce the issues you're having. It doesnt seem like the problems with browsing WC cease with the forums either, which would lead me to believe that you have something more serious going on, on your machine than just a cookie problem. I would reccomend uninstalling Firefox, SDCentral, and any other 3rd party browsing related application. Then give FF a fresh install and give that a shot. If that fails to work, try another PC with a smiliar setup and see how that goes.

What worries me about your description is that the secondary forum login (which you see dissappearing after 3 or 4 seconds) shouldnt even appear to you. And definately shouldnt take 3 to 4 seconds to hide. I'm not a fan of Firefox's javascript support, but I know for a fact that it doesnt take that long to hide that element.

It's reasonably safe to say that something is either blocking our login cookie, corrupting it as soon as it's installed, or it's simply failing to write to the cookie. If at all possible, it would be cool if you could email your *stardock.com and *wincustomize.com cookies to me at andrew at stardock dot com. Maybe that will give us a clue as to what is going on, on your system.

Beyond that, again, the symptoms you're having with WC outside of the forums tend to suggest that there is something larger going on. There's no reason you should have to refresh certain pages just to get updated content. Typically when that happens with IE, it's due to a bug with IE. When I've seen that with Firefox, it's been an outdated build of FF (I hope you're using the latest, 1.5.0.4. If not, please upgrade immediately) or a bad install.

Maybe it's 1 or 2 seconds. Sorry.

I hope you're using the latest, 1.5.0.4.

Checked and I am. Reinstalled it anyway.

I've no idea what NoScript is. When I had mentioned a fresh install of Firefox, I should have included in that to either remove or completely disable anything that may have an effect on it.

You could also try completely shutting down zone alarm as well.

I have tried shutting them down, uninstalling them, adjusting, just about all I could think of.

NoScripts is a FF extension that blocks unwanted svripts. It gives you the opyion to allow or temporarily allow or block with each site. From what I gather, it's huge popularity aside, it's good and safe.

Well from your last screenshot it looks like you're logged in ok. Is that correct?

Yeah. Loggin in on FF. But this behavior comes and goes. Almost 50% of the time I can't log into forums. The main page is still coming up in a resolution larger than what I use, so it's about a quarter off the screen. I hate having to use that bottom scroll bar. lol. I purposely don't go to sites that I have to scroll left to right to see the entire page. lol.

Still have the problem with the 'My Skins' page tabs. And when I log onto the main page I get the 'Recent Forums Activity' list I posted above, and have to refresh to update it. I have reinstalled everything except SDC, which is the only app that is not giving me hard time on the site.

None of this is 'new', so to speak. It's been going on for many weeks, just alternating back and forth between problems. One goes away, another comes back.

Sorry it took so long to reply, I had to go to work. (shudder)
lol

Were my 'cookies' okay?
