Unable to log onto forums in FF and IE

Tuesday, July 25, 2006 by PoSmedley | Discussion: WinCustomize Site Issues

This has been an ongoing problem I have mentioned in other threads. Now, it's gotten worse and it won't go away.

First, when I go to the main page, the resolutuion seems off and it's not centered. Before, I would not be able to sign on when it did this and had to refresh to get it back to normal. Now I can sign on, but it still runs off my screen.

When I try to log into forums on IE and FF, this is what I get.

The little 'nickname' window vanishes after 3 or 4 seconds and I am left with just the regular sign in windows which will not sign me in. I don't get an error or any message, it just won't sign me in.

Now, I have the NoScript extension on FF ALLOWING WC, SD and everything connected. I have ZA and allow all but THIRD party cookies. I have tried shutting both off. I have tried allowing 3rd party cookies. I have tried signing on with my nick and my email. Nothing will sign me inot the forums on FF or IE. None of my settings have been altered in months, except for the things listed that I have tried to get signed on. I'm getting so freakin frustrated with this. It just seems as soon as something is fixed or added or changed, I have new problems or old ones come back. Thids is the only site that I run into these kinds of problems with, the ones mentioned here and then the on and off again avatar problem, quote problem, image link problem...etc.

Please...puh-leeze tell me it can be fixed or it's gonna end soon.

Sorry for the lengthy whine. I realize I have broken my own rule here.

Po', is there any way you could get onto the Stardock IRC channel in the morning (stardock time) sometime this next week? You could probably get a conversation with Andrew_ about this problem, and we could troubleshoot in real-time to see if we can get this solved for you.

Sorry for all the problems you are having... there seems to be some major issues at hand, and some of the symptoms of 'normal' behavior you describe arent even the norm for me, so I would like to figure out whats going on.

Sure.

Sorry for all the problems you are having.

I love the site or I'd been gone long ago. I can deal with it for as long as it takes. I greatly apreciate any time that you all take on this, I know you have bigger fish to fry.

although...I wonder how much more I can take before I climb a tower, naked and covered in vaseline, with a high powered slingshot.

This just started and I can't refresh out of this one.

LOL Fight

* The vaseline makes the incoming bullets 'slide' right over you.

P.S. Got my first error when I tried to go from this page to the main page, if this helps you to help me.

What is that 'XML' over your 'Logout' tab? Stardock RSS feed or RSS Reader?

hey Po'

have you tried creating a new login, and seeing if you can login to wincustomise as the new user, and if you get the same problems?

just thought you would like something else to try

That's the Stardock feed. Shouldn't be a problem.

I tried a few things on one of my guinea pig machines and I can 'almost' replicate your problem. Open FF to the forum page (logged in or out doesn't matter). In the FF/ Tool/ JavaScript Console under errors, hit clear. Refresh the forum page and open the console again. You should have a handful of 'Declaration Skipped' errors. If you have a ton of errors and/or they don't say that (IE will be doing the same thing), re-install Java 5.0 update 7....and get rid of those script stoppers.

Now, if there's nothing else....I'm off to the cabana...

I've gotten to this thread in a very round about way. I finally logged in using FF, but it's been difficult. I haven't been able to log in for 3 days now. I get the sme page as Po in post 21. I cannot log in under IE7 or Opera. I also had problems this morning with FF but I finally managed to log in.

I've tried most of the things that have been sugested on this thread, including deleting all cookies and temp files plus creating a new account to try to log on, but nothing has worked. I'm considering doing a system restore but really don't want to have to, and I'm not even sure if that will work.

Any more suggestions?

yrag, this is what I get after doing the clear. is it what it should be, or do I need to reinstall java?

I'm trying the same thing Po' and I got similar results. I can now log onto WC using FF but not IE7. On IE7 I donot see all those declaration skipped or dropped messages. But I cllicked clear any ways and nothing happened. Tried refreshing and still no change but that's on IE7 only.

I uninstalled NoScript And FF
Reinstalled FF
Reinstalled Java version 5.0 update 6 and verified the install on the Java Sun site

Still have the same problems with logging onto main page and resolution of main page.

Po: you do have .NET framework 2.0 installed, yes?

Give me a shot of the FF Tools/ Options/ Content page and the Enable JavaScript/ Advanced page.

regarding your shot in comment #21 - the polls - I don't get that, I get vote options instead. refreshing 3-6 times sometimes works. else I pull down bookmarks, hit WC again and the page loads with me logged in. Been happening about 3-4 days now.

In FF/ Tools/ Options under Fonts and Colors/ Advanced: uncheck 'Allow Pages to choose their own font' Re-start FF. Does it fit now?

You are da' man!

Still have the goofy log-on thing going on with the main page, but the resolution is what it should be.
Thank you!

BTW, I like my Compaq.
