Microsoft Virtual PC 2004 is now free

I'm not too familiar with this software, but it's free.
"Whether Microsoft virtualization technology is an important component of your existing infrastructure or you're just a Virtual PC enthusiast, you can now download Virtual PC 2004 Service Pack 1 absolutely free. Microsoft is also offering the free download of Virtual PC 2007, with support for Windows Vista in 2007"

I knew it before it was MS, and loved it. They have already released Virtual Server. If you need to run multiple OS' on your computer, it is a pretty good product. Just have lots of memory.

I will....already have 1.5gig, soon to be 4gig. Not that it ever runs low or anything, even when running the Vista beta, but a friend in the business is using his contacts in wholesale and staff discount to get me 4 sticks of 1gig ram at considerably less than recommended retail price.
Haven't actually installed it as yet - been reading up on the info first - but Virtual PC looks very much to fullfil my needs with regards to OS switching.

The reason for the lots of memory is that you have to dedicate memory to each instance of VPC. So if you have 2 running say with 500mb each, there goes 1 gig right there.
And unless you are a hard core gamer, I think 4gb will suffice! Can I be your friend's friend too?

I prefer VMWare as opposed to MS Virtual solution.

VMWare server is free as well. It's trifle more complex than VMWare workstation but it's a good product.

well, I thought it would be cool to have my XP and my Ubuntu 'Dapper Drake' Linux running at the same time. This machine has the juice for it. Downloaded the MSVPC and spent the ENTIRE FRICKIN' DAY trying to install linux in it.
From 'Failed to create file system' to the dumb desktop .iso running at 1600x600x8 (which was totally unusable) I never got it to install correctly one time.

Not overly familiar with it myself, but I know it allows changing from one OS (and I have 3) to another with a mouse click or two, so I'll be gleefully downloading this one...
