How to edit the user panel for compact start menu

I can not find the tutorial that explains how to edit the user pane for a compact start menu. My Icons on the left have a little bit of text showing and I want to get rid of it
I think it's the user pane I should be editing

You're right, there used to be a tutorial in the Articles/Tutorials section...can't remember who did it, but it had screenshots and instructions.
