I can't go into the museaum and take the Mona Lisa off the wall and say "I'm gonna alter it and add value to it." It's a finished, complete work and it's value is what it is.

Are you sure?

I just wanted to take a minute to thank those of you that hoped I would reconsider, it means a great deal.

*Sighs* unfortunately no, the decisions been made and it is too late to back out now... I have my work posted at Deviant Art, all of it and then some, LoL.. Also I am a member of Skinnalicious, Skin Your Screen and I may join one other site, if they'll have me..but as far as WC..im done. It isnt the only circus in town, and it's time to move on.

Too bad, there are still alot of people here that I admire, but then, many of them also belong to other sites as well so I will run into them...

For those of you that think all I was after is my "15 minutes of fame" allow me to assure you I really tried to avoid the embarrassment of that 15 minutes..but im only human, with slight anger managment issues.."I can only take so much and then I cant take no more"..LoL

At anyrate people, I'll be around the net somwhere..LoL
Take care,
Z.

It's never too late, Bob.  Even deleted works can be salvaged/restored within a reasonable time [though not always the case]...

After all this copyright talk, a bootskin just posted...Alien vs Predator 3, has printed right on the bottom the copyright restrictions. "Private use only" is pretty plain to see. No one needs to go searching too far to find that and I have to say I'm pretty amazed it got posted after all of this. Oh well, just an observation.....

No problem Jafo. Regarding the Prince of Persia bootskins uploaded at the same time by the same person, from the Ubisoft website:

NTELLECTUAL PROPERTY

Ubi owns a copyright in the selection, coordination, arrangement and enhancement of such content. You may not modify, publish, transmit, participate in the transfer or sale, create derivative works, or in any way exploit, any of the content contained on the Sites (including, without limitation, content that Ubi enables you to download) without the express written permission of Ubi and the copyright owner. The downloading of copyrighted material from the Sites is allowed by you only for your own use. Just in case there was another "glitch"

Regarding the Prince of Persia bootskins uploaded at the same time by the same person, from the Ubisoft website:

The problem arises here that the uploader might not have sourced the image/s directly from the Ubisoft Website ...but may have found them elsewhere, devoid of usage restriction/s....thus making the uploader believe he was 'in the right' in using/uploading them.

Perhaps...

Any and ALL Boots or Logons should be automatically refused [moderated] if they do not have links to their source.

It seems obvious that some people cannot be relied-upon to confirm DEFINITIVE consent.

This matter needs discussion between Admins/moderators to determine formal policy.

Either way it will be difficult to adopt for existing uploads retrospectively....

Hey Sir B., could ya use a smaller font

Perhaps...

Hey Jafo; would that mean have to upload apop, terragen, bryce and PSP X files to photobucket to link for source

Ok. Good to hear it will be discussed. There seems to be far too much leeway left to the moderators by not having as clear cut a policy as there should be.

Oh, and it does say there that even if Ubisoft permits it to be used on other sites, it will still be for personal use only.

No, smartypants...

The 'issue' is with wallpaper sources in particular.  Hopefully 'ripped' buttons, etc can be caught by the community...[fortunately Boots don't even have them to worry about].

If the wall image is your own personal work all you'd need to do would be to say so....but if it was being 'borrowed' from someone/where else then link and/or permission.txt to verify consent to use.

Rather than 'assuming consent' we 'assume prohibition' until evidence to the contrary.

In other words...we classify every submitted logon or boot as unacceptable and moderate it  UNLESS it has links/permissions/proof of ownership.

Means the moderators shoot first and ask questions later....

Very strange..looks like plain ordinary *English* to me...

Perhaps a case of selective inerpretation to meet ones agenda??

The world will never know....

I suppose it isnt the Stock Exchange that has material meant to be used in projects so that makes the licences agreement less important...

boss0190 ...yes, that's probably quite right....but if the user/uploader was totally oblivious to the reality that the image actually belonged to Ubisoft....because he found it on RippedWallsRUs.com or somewhere then he is 'innocent' of intent, only of actuality...
boss0190
Reply #80 Saturday, June 10, 2006 2:57 AM
RippedWallsRUs.com would put the Ubisoft logo on a wall that wasn't Ubisoft's? A bit of a stretch I think...but I don't know how those sites work....could be.
