how to remove bootscreen, and other questions.

on my desktop i once downloaded a bootscreen, i then deleted it and all was fine. then out of nowhere, upon startup a second option for "xp (bootscreen)" shows up. what i want to know is how do i get rid of this option, or atleast move the (bootscreen) option down on the list so that the regular xp starts automatically.
on my laptop i have xp and ubuntu and have no intentions of removing ubuntu, but i would like to also make xp the default instead of ubuntu so you dont have to be present to start xp. id also like to hide the menu altogether unless you press a certain key, so the other users would never have to deal with picking the os or anything, and i could easily get to ubuntu with a simple key command.

You probably use GRUB as boot loader (Ubuntu comes with it) , you can edit the grub.conf file under /boot/grub/ There you can set the default option to boot (you can set it to xp) In the same file you can change the number of seconds you wait until the default OS boots. Editing the file grub.conf careless can leave your system unbootable. Don't delete anything, just change the values to the ones you want and do it under your own risk
Maybe you can set it to two seconds and you can boot Ubuntu being present

seems relatively straightforward. im attempting to delete the bootscreen OS but i want to make sure which # that is first of all. in the boot.ini would it be the OS on the top which is #1? this would be the (bootscreen) one. thanks.
also for the laptop, if i wanted to change the boot menu settings, would i have to do it both on the xp and the ubuntu side or would this be redundant?

Just in Ubuntu, Windows have no idea you have a boot loader like GRUB, also GRUB come before Windows default boot loader
