Elder Scrolls Oblivion incompatability

graphical glitches

Thursday, March 30, 2006 by kin242 | Discussion: Stardock Support General

I've noticed that the game Elder Scrolls Oblivion seems to get quite a few graphical glitches when it is played when using the following stardock programs:

ObjectDock plus
Widgets

I think it may also conflict with DesktopEarth, which runs via active desktiop.

Typical problem is parts of the screen flashing occasionally to show part of the underlying window desktop. This also seems to cause game slowdown. I've also had the system tray flashing through the game.

Hardware used: Geforce 6800 GT, Amd 3500, 1024Gb RAM
S/W: Windows XP, latest official nvidia drivers.

No other games I have conflict with these programs... I've posted this to the Elder Scrolls official forum too as I think its more likely their bad coding... In the meantime I guess I'll have to unload everything before I play the game.

I'm getting similar flashing from WB 5.01. I'm using the Wire and Glass theme, and the transparency of the taskbar flashes like crazy while playing - makes the game virtually unplayable.

Running X2 3800+
1GB
x800xl
XP Pro SP2

I notice all those apps use alpha blended transparency.

I am sorry to say that given it impacts so many apps it seems likely that it is a bug in the game and the game is simply not fully XP compatible.

Their developers need to try it with a layered window on screen.

Hopefully you're in touch with them on this Neil, or will be. Info from a fellow dev will have an easier time getting through all the noise that is the Oblivion forums...

has there been any news on this? This is really destroying my Stardock experience...I can't use it at all and play Oblivion!

ive just set up a seperate user profile with no winblinds or anything else so i can play games, frustrating though as its the first thing i tried after installing winblinds.

I found that some skins are worse than others but the all seem to slow down the game.

my setup is
Pentium4 3gig 2gig Ram x800xtpe 256mb. xpsp2
